CFO Blake Jorgenson of EA Games, spoke about the future of gaming recently at this year’s Technology, Internet & Media Conference. Jorgensen talked about tablet and mobile gaming and how, as increasingly powerful devices become available, they could offer an experience on par with console gaming. He also touched on how the portability of tablets affected their appeal, suggesting that tablet gamin may become an important focus for the gaming giant.
“What gets us the most excited is the power, the computing power, of mobile devices and the speed at which that’s growing. What that might mean is that a tablet, three or four years from now, has more power than what a typical console has. And that will open up a whole new set of people to console-style games that are much more immersive, much deeper, much more character-driven than simply a static mobile game that you might play for a small burst of time while you’re waiting for the bus.” said Blake Jorgensen, speaking at the 2015 Technology, Internet & Media Conference.
EA Games are responsible for some hugely popular series such as Madden, Mass Effect, and SimCity, and have produced plenty of well received stand alone titles like Star Wars: The Old Republic. Often described as one of the biggest gaming companies in the world, EA Games have previously had a lot of influence on certain aspects of the gaming industry, especially in relation to the use of Data Rights Management (DRM) software and the development of the free-to-play structure. With an industry leader like themselves leading the drive for powerful portable devices and console quality games it’s more than likely EA will realize their dreams of seeing gamers play Madden 18 on the bus.
