When Sony launched the PlayStation 4 one of the more appealing features of the console was its Remote Play ability, allowing players to remotely access their systems’ from a phone or tablet and, using a Bluetooth enabled controller, play any game they have installed.
Despite the promising nature of Remote Play, it’s only supported by a handful of Sony devices, such as their Xperia smartphone range, the PS Vita, and the Playstation TV. To date Sony have shown no signs of extending support to other devices or manufacturers, despite the market for it.
Thankfully, TheScriptKitty, a member of the mobile development and modding site XDA Developers, has developed an app that bring Remote Play support to the majority of Android devices. The app is able to run on any phone running Android 2.2 (Froyo) onwards, and is available here as an APK file from the XDA forums. Once it has been downloaded the APK will install itself on your device like any other app.
TheScriptKitty’s release not only allows you to stream Sony’s next-gen games to almost any Android device, but also includes several features and enhancements over Sony’s stock version. The program removes the need to connect via WiFi and gives users the option to play with onscreen controls should they lack a suitable controller. It will even run on rooted devices.
You can find more details on the program and how to install it in the video below.
