Fans of Sega’s mascot are eager to see a re-mastered edition of Sonic The Hedgehog 3 released on Android. The 1994 classic from the Sega Genesis is already receiving an update from developers Simon Thomley and Christian Whitehead, complete with new levels, bonus modes, cut-scenes and the ability to play in widescreen.
Thomley and Whitehead have succeeded in bringing the Sonic franchise to Android before, when developing re-mastered editions of Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, and Sonic CD, all three of which also contained new and updated content. The previous games received SEGA’s endorsement and were released on Google Play by SEGA of America.
This time however SEGA have yet to agree to the release of the game. Recent changes for the video game publisher, including a reduction in staff, suggest changing priorities for the business and they seem reluctant to approve the project. Thomley and Whitehead are calling on fans of the series to show their support online and sign a petition. They hope that once SEGA is shown that there is a demand for the game they’ll be able to release it. The development duos have also set up a website to provide an overview of what they hope to achieve.
