Just in time for the holidays, Hardcore Droid brings you the top five games of the week. Whether you need a break from the family, or just need a simple moment of solid entertainment, we got you covered. This week includes a comic book game, a point and click adventure, a roguelike, a GTA port, and the newest enhanced edition of Baldur’s Gate II, which means you do not want to miss this week.
5. SXPD: The Comic Book Game
SXPD is literally a comic book you can play. It sports wildly innovative visuals that make this action game stand out from the crowd in a big way. There are 42 pages of this beautifully rendered game, each of which functions as an impressive transition to the actual core gameplay. There are plenty of challenges and achievements in this game, with the first chapter being completely free of charge.
4. Bit Dungeon II
Bit Dungeon II is a cute retro ARPG, in the vein of Diablo I. As you might have guessed, BDII is the second installment in the series, the first having received a good review with Hardcore Droid. We are hoping this second iteration will, relative to the first, accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative, as there was certainly a bit of both with the first title. An old-school dungeon crawler, Bit Dungeon II tags many of the roguelike bases, including randomly generated items, ranged weapons and spells, and the ability to replay it over and over again.
3. Tales from the Borderlands
If you are a fan of Borderlands, this one is for you! Set in the world of Pandora, after the events of Borderlands 2, and developed by Telltale Games, makers of the hugely popular The Walking Dead, Wolf Among Us, and the more recent Game of Thrones point and click adventures, Tales from the Borderlands is an episodic adventure where you pick the events through responses and actions. You will find many familiar faces in this adventure, some who will only appear if you so choose. Telltale Games has literally reinvented the point and click adventure genre with The Walking Dead, and has been churning out hit after hit ever since. There is no reason for us not to think that they didn’t hit another grand slam with this one
2. GTA Chinatown Wars
Now available on Android, GTA Chinatown Wars is a port of the only GTA that was originally made for mobile devices via Android’s best bud, the Nintendo DS. Though this rendition of the game might seem different in the way it is presented, all of the legendary gameplay (robbing, killing, driving, things exploding) is still there, making this a desirable Android game, to say the least.
1. Baldur’s Gate II Enhanced Edition
Considered by many to be the greatest RPG of all time, Hardcore Droid gave the first iteration of Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition a huge 4.5 out of 5 rating. This enhanced edition of Baldur’s Gate II is beautifully rendered, with a few tweaks to keep it up to snuff with today’s expectations (including a quick save button). The developers, Beamdog, even added four new characters to this new edition, each with new stories that add several hours of extra gameplay. If this one is anywhere near as good as the port of Baldur’s Gate EE, then it’s definitely one you don’t want to miss!
