For our money there are about ten (out of about eight billion tower defense titles currently for sale on Google Play) worth talking about and amongst that number there are maybe three or four franchises that provide players with an experience that’s every bit as good as a quality old school strategy game. Both Myth Defense: Light Forces and Myth Defense 2: Dark Forces Platinum do everything a good TD title should do while delivering the TD trappings with style and aplomb. Among the most nuanced mobile tower defense titles to date, the Myth Defense games are broken into two parts: the preparatory game, where players use collected resources to earn new towers and upgrades, picking from a sizeable pool of buffs, weapons and tower types, and the game’s superb campaign and skirmish mode. Between its varied tower capabilities, almost all of which reciprocate in some way with enemy attributes, its absence of preset tower locales, (to say nothing of a complete absence of IAPs) and the game’s singular and appealing aesthetic, you have what amounts to the high water mark for mobile tower defense. If you’re a strategy fan and a mobile enthusiast who has not built his own uber-gauntlet-maze in a Myth Defense game, you should head over to the Play Store.
