Best Android Games of January

Every year when January rolls around, we are bombarded with cliché sayings such as “new year, new me.” We are encouraged to try new things and look to the future. Well, as Einstein said, “Time is relative.” I’m not exactly sure what that means, but the way I interpret it is that “time doesn’t exist.” So, to you I say “new year, same me.” I am going to live in the present and stick with the things I know I like. And you know what I can do right now that both the old and present me will enjoy? Play the best Android games of January. Coincidentally, they are listed below. Happy New Year!

5. Evil Nun 2

Keplerians’ Evil Nun 2 is the follow-up to their hit horror escape game Evil Nun. If this is the first you are hearing about the Evil Nun games, don’t fret. You don’t need to have played the original title to enjoy its sequel. In fact, the backstory of the evil nun, Sister Madeline, is revealed in this game. So if you are curious as to why a nun is trying to kill a young child, Evil Nun 2 is where that information will be bestowed upon you.

You play as the kid the nun is trying to murder, and your goal is clear: Sneak out of the school before Sister Madeline and her mutant chickens can find you. Stealth is key because the chickens have great hearing and will use that to hunt you down. With four difficulty modes to choose from and simple controls, gamers of any level can play Evil Nun 2. You just have to be brave enough to give it a try.

4. Forsaken World: Gods and Demons

Forsaken World: Gods and Demons is the newest title in the Forsaken World franchise. This open-world fantasy MMORPG was adapted for mobile by Yoozoo Games. Converting PC games to mobile is a challenging task, but Yoozoo Games has delivered. For example, character customization is usually more limited when comparing mobile games to their PC counterparts, but this doesn’t apply to Forsaken World: Gods and Demons. You can basically customize your character however you want.

Additionally, there are seven classes to choose from, each with two subclasses. Both European and Asian mythologies heavily influenced this title. This adds more variety to the available classes than many other RPGs. Namely, one of the seven classes is Vampire, which is not a very common option. The Vampire draws its power from dark magic and can suck an enemy’s lifeforce in order to heal themselves. Doesn’t that sound like fun? If you are looking for a unique, highly customizable mobile MMORPG, Forsaken World: Gods and Demons might be for you.

3. Basketball Arena

If you are a fan of the movie Space Jam, you will love Basketball Arena. This arcade-style sports game provides simple, unfettered fun. Fill your roster and play against online opponents. To win, you just need to score more points than the other player. Easy, right?

The more you win, the more difficult your games will become as you battle stronger and stronger opponents. Luckily, your roster is filled with Rookies, Pros and Superstars. The Pro players are inspired from real-life NBA players including Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Steph Curry and LeBron James. The Superstar players are mascots, which are often underrated. So I am glad that Wild Tiger, Angry Monkey and the others are finally getting the attention that they deserve.

You can make your team stronger by leveling up your players. This is done by winning matches and getting chests. There are also superpowers, which include turning invisible and freezing time. These can come in handy when you are playing against a particularly skilled team. Are you up for the challenge of managing a team and achieving victory in developer Masomo’s multiplayer basketball game? If you are, Basketball Arena is for you.

2. Wild West Heroes

Have you ever wanted to go back in time to be a rough and tumble cowboy who roams the Wild West with his trusty steed and pistol? Now you have your chance. Wild West Heroes, a strategy idle RPG brought to us by mobile developer GOAT Games, begins with the narrator setting the scene. You are a man named Stranger, roaming across the desert catching outlaws. And just because you are a cowboy doesn’t mean you have to go it alone. You can enlist over 90 heroes to assist with your mission. Additionally, you can take time off from apprehending the bad guys to build a town or explore the unknown terrain of the desert, where you can play a variety of minigames.

During battle, your hero’s Grit Meter increases the more they fight and, once it is full, you can unleash their special move. These are different for each hero. One can summon a herd of buffalo, for example, and another unleashes a powerful attack upon an enemy with low health. Wild West Heroes is sure to provide players with an engaging and multifaceted experience. Can I get a yeehaw?

1. Merge Raid.io

If you are a closet goth, Merge Raid.io can provide you with a way to release some of your suppressed dark and morbid energy. In Daerisoft’s battle royale RPG, you play as a necromancer and build up your army of undead. You can summon up to 10 heroes at a time, choosing from either the basic or rare list, though you probably won’t use any of the basic heroes in your army. Instead, you will combine their bodies to make an even more powerful hero. If you choose to summon from the rare list, you could end up with duplicate heroes because the rarer the hero the less chance you have of summoning them. But don’t worry. This is not a waste. You can trade your heroes in for money and other compensation.

Once your army is built, you can choose from three types of gameplay. The first is an open field setting, where you have to last 11 minutes against AI-controlled mobs. The second type is a battle royale and the third is online multiplayer, where you can team up with other necromancers to defeat bosses and gain riches.

Merge Raid.io uses 2D pixel art to animate the characters and places them in a sharp 3D world. This combination of old and new echoes the way necromancers bring old souls into the modern world. Will you join the necromancers’ ranks now, while you are alive, or later when they bring your dead body back to life? The choice is yours.
