Hardcore Droid’s best Android games for the week of 1-19-15 include a SimCity game, a sci-fi horror title, an action grand theft game, an entrepreneur game, and a strategy card game from Blizzard Entertainment. You definitely don’t want to miss out on any one of these babies.
5. Dead Space
Just re-released for the Android on 1080 HD, this new and revised Dead Space makes our list this week mostly because it was one of the first great core Android games when it was first released in 2011. This critically acclaimed horror-sci-fi shooter has a few exclusive items to offer for this mobile version, including 2 new weapons and the aforementioned high definition graphics. With intuitive controls, and immersive sci-fi-horror narrative, and extremely impressive graphics, this one will be difficult to put down.
4. Gangstar Vegas
Gangstar Vegas is a clone of Grand Theft Auto, so if you are one of those rare individuals who is into that series, this one might be for you. With plenty of activities and missions to engage with, you’ll have plenty of interesting encounters, just be ready for a barrage of silly puns and ill-attempts at humor. We reviewed the original release of GV, and liked it a great deal. You can check out our review right here. If you do, bear in mind that this latest updated GV includes a host of new perks, including gang battles, a new currency and a bunch of Holiday-related content. In Gangstar Vegas, you will probably spend most of your time on foot, so be ready for that.
3. SimCity BuildIt
The seminal, classical SimCity was the first city building simulation worth talking about, and SimCity BuildIt brings all of SimCity’s city building entertainment to mobile. Per usual, you can build to your hearts content, or set your world ablaze with natural disasters at your disposal. With impressive 3D graphics and full 360 degree rotation, SimCity BuildIt will certainly keep you amused for a long time. Bear in mind that this new mobile SimCity is the product of EA Origin, and is thus likely saddled with overpriced IAPs. From what we’ve seen so far though, going for the free download and just churning out a city or two is a lot of fun, we must admit.
2. Biz Builder Delux
The makers of Biz Builder, Kairosoft, have made a seemingly thriving business out of developing wonderful mobile simulation games. Every Hardcore Droid strategy best of lists we have ever made has had at least one Kairosoft game on it. Without a doubt Biz Builder will be following in the footsteps of every Kairosoft mobile scum that came before it—meaning: This title will be one impressive game. Biz Builder Delux places you as the town’s entrepreneur extraordinaire, where your goal is to make money so you can open new businesses and make yet even more money.
1. Hearthstone
Blizzard is vast. As in Microsoft and Sony huge. However, it is probably the only company of its size that achieved said largeness by creating nothing but consistently great games. Few companies could make that boast and mean it in the way that Blizzard can. Again, the thing about Blizzard’s games is that they are always great, without fail. For those of you who just awoke from a coma, Blizzard are the folks that brought the world World of Warcraft, Diablos I, II, and III, Star Crafts I and II, as well as War Craft I, II, and III. After funning it up in the worlds of the above titles, a lot of gamers could not help but balk when it became clear that Blizzard’s next big thing was going to be a digital card game. Say what? A lot of other gamers, like us at HD (because we’re cool), thought: “You know what? It’s going to be a Blizzard game so it will be great.” And so far, from what we’ve seen, and from what HD editor Matthew Byrd told us in his recent review, Hearthstone is a brilliant video game. What’s more, there are hours upon hours of free content to be enjoyed here. Investment in terms of both time and money is fluid, dynamic and entirely up to the player, in terms of how much he or she wants to put into this beautiful baby. What’s more, the single-player battles are against AI heroes from the Warcraft universe. When you are prepared for an even larger challenge, you can then take your cards and duel other players and win cool prizes while doing it. Just a card game? No. This is a Blizzard game.
