Neocraft’s Chronicles of Infinity is a new MMORPG title by the creators of Tales of Wind, another MMORPG title with over 16 million downloads as of the writing of this article. The game boasts both console-quality graphics and a robust fighting system, along with an intricate high-fantasy science fiction world.
The story is laid out at the beginning of the game. You are put in the War of the Alliances, and the protagonist you create is the only one who can end it. The Astral Alliance and the Obsidian alliance are at odds. The protagonist you create will be the last surviving member of the Guardians, and you are on the side of the Astral Alliance.
However, the MMORPG doesn’t just focus on the main questline. Not only are there plentiful sidequests, but there are arenas for you to battle other players, such as the Apex Guerilla arena hosting a 150-player battle royale with high-value rewards.
Console-Quality
The graphics are beautiful. Every detail from the battle animations to the world is engaging and well-made. I chose to play in the Arcania class, but more on that later; the animations of my created protagonist’s magical abilities are bright and stand out from the lush and high-tech floating islands where the majority of the fights take place. Graphics indicating health bars, damage, levels, and currency are all clear and easy to read.
Not only are the graphics are console-quality; the game mechanics themselves are. Fighting is easy, but not mindless like a lot of mobile MMORPGs. Gameplay is actually affected by leveling and upgrading your items. On top of that, you could easily go without a league for a long period of time and get used to the game first.
The most interesting twist on this MMORPG is the battle-royale arenas where you fight for awards. The biggest, the aforementioned 150-player arena called the Apex Guerilla Arena has the best rewards out of all the arenas. Because of this and the ease of collecting new items, purchasing premium currency is not a requirement to attain items needed to complete the main questline. You can play this title through its entirety without spending a cent.
Three Classes Restricted In Gender
There are three classes; as mentioned before. I chose the Arcania class. Although it just so happened to be the type of class I normally play in MMORPGs. Why is the option to play as a girl limited to only the Arcania class? Both the Dragoon and Phantom classes can only be male.
However, this complaint is only a superficial one. Your gender has no impact on your gameplay. Since it’s available on PC as well I played it on my laptop to test the other two classes, as I didn’t want to delete the progress I made on my phone. The classes are all distinct and have different advantages and disadvantages. Many MMORPGs have very little difference between classes, but Chronicles of Infinity actually meets the promises it makes time and time again.
The Phantom class features high damage attacks and superior dodging abilities, but with inferior defense. The Dragoon class is probably the best for newer players as it has much higher HP and stellar defense, even if the class causes the least damage of the three. Finally, the Arcania class has high defense and range spells to combat the class’s low survival rating.
Recent Server Issues And Other Bugs
Recently, there were issues when servers in Chronicles of Infinity merged together. Server outages affected my gameplay during the beginning. Players affected were compensated through in-game currency once the issue was solved.
A few players reportedly still had issues. Some issues include lag or their character not responding when attempting to move around the map. I had experienced the latter a few times, but exiting out of the app and returning fixed the issue. I haven’t experienced the issue since the last patch update, but players on Facebook have reported similar issues with lag as well as the game freezing occasionally. The developers are incredibly responsive to issues reported on their Facebook page. In fact, these issues are being worked on as we speak, as the developers are receptive to feedback and have fixed many previous problems within days of being reported.
In the end, I can recommend Chronicles of Infinity to anyone who wants a free-to-play MMORPG. The world is full of lore and beautiful visuals. Many aspects are alike to a much larger console title. Their official site has links to everywhere it can be downloaded, and their Facebook seems to be the active social media resource for the game.
Is It Hardcore?
Yes
The only critiques of this game are small and superficial, or are already being worked on according to their Facebook page; this game is fun to play, easy to look at, and features engaging gameplay. Long story short, what we consider Hardcore.
