Rejection Simulator
According to developer SBN3, the dark comedy visual novel Class of ’09 is the opposite of a typical dating sim. Described as “a rejection sim,” players take the role of a sociopathic teenage nihilist in the psychotic world of a 2000s high school. The game launched on Steam last year, and players can download the Android port now from the Google Play Store.
The graphical adventure game follows Nicole, a vulgar high school sophomore who moves to a new town after her father’s suicide. There, she must introduce herself to a new school packed with a varied cast of vapid, hedonistic, and predatory students and teachers. Not that Nicole herself is a sparkling bundle of positive character traits. Players are encouraged to dive headfirst into the sadistic life of a manipulative high schooler. As the trailer puts it, “Everyone is terrible, even you.”
Rule the School
Class of ’09 is fully voiced and features over 40 choices with fifteen different endings. The latter includes everything from graduation to prison to, as SBN3 puts it, “hanging out” in Nicole’s bedroom. The game lets players live out twisted high school fantasies, cutting class, popping pills, exposing pedophiles, and wrapping Nicole’s classmates around her fingers. And players might need to go all-in with the manipulation to unlock the best endings to Nicole’s story.
Class of ‘09’s PC release arrived on Steam in June of last year. Steam’s reviews are “Very Positive” as of this writing, though the game’s apparently quite short. The game also receives criticism from those who feel that its satire tries too hard to be edgy without any real point. However, those negative views belong to a tiny minority of players. Others found the comedy hilarious and the characters surprisingly relatable for such a misanthropic game.
Those who want to check it out for themselves can download Class of ‘09 now from Google Play. Also, stick around for our upcoming review here on Hardcore Droid.
