90s Kids Fat and Happy, Sources Say
PlayStation fans’ favorite jorts-clad mascot is back in another new title! In spite of its origins as a Sony exclusive, Crash Bandicoot: On The Run! is making its way to Android and iOS for all to enjoy. This particular entry in the Bandicoot saga comes to us from the mobile game moguls behind the Candy Crush games by King Digital Entertainment.
As its title implies, On The Run! will be an endless runner style game à la Temple Run. Which seems like a natural fit given the gameplay of its console counterparts. Of course, due to the limiting nature of the medium, some aspects of the series that fans have come to expect have been scaled down for mobile. Most notably, Crash’s moveset has been simplified to just jumping, sliding and spinning. Sorry, body slam stans! Along with that, On The Run!’s models have been scaled back from the high-res redesigns of the series remasters in favor of a more simplified, cartoonish look.
Who Keeps Giving Cortex More Power Crystals?
In terms of story, little is known outside of this short statement from King Digital Entertainment: “Dr. Neo Cortex has dispatched iconic villains across the multiverse to take control of all dimensions. With the help of his sister Coco, Crash must bash Cortex’s minions back to their own dimensions!” What we do know is that this adventure will take Crash through several locations fans of the series might find familiar, such as Turtle Woods, Lost City, Temple Ruins and The Lab. What’s more, fans will see the return of classic villains like Nina Cortex, N. Brio and Fake Crash along with many new surprises.
Among those surprises is the ability to unlock various skins and costumes to customize a unique Bandicoot all your own. Not only that, but you’ll have the chance to show off your custom Crash in asynchronous multiplayer runs to compete for best time. With talk of weapon crafting, base building and even secret levels, who can say what else On The Run! has in store?
While it won’t be available to play until next month, those that pre-register before its release on March 25th will unlock an exclusive blue hyena skin for Crash, a nod to the multiverse theme the series has taken. Will Crash Bandicoot: On The Run! run the gamut? Or will it crash and burndicoot? You can find out for free next month!
