Whether farming for resources, building a civilization or forming RPG-style raid groups, gamers of all backgrounds will feel at home. Dragon Tamer even includes key features of merge games. Breed dragons as they level up to produce new powerful allies to organize an unstoppable draconian team.

In the land of Dragon Tamer, your home is the Dragon Island. This is where you build habitats, farms, breeding grounds and relics to care for and strengthen your dragons. Much like in Pokemon, your dragons belong to specific elemental types. Therefore, it’s in your best interest as a responsible dragon tamer to house them in appropriate habitats. In fact, that’s the only way you can house them so you can’t go wrong. Each habitat appears as a square plot of land on Dragon Island. Their color scheme and terrain correspond to the dragon type they support. However, unlike Pokemon, dragons can be multiple types. This dynamic helps players manage limited real estate. Luckily, habitats are upgradeable and can contain more dragons at higher levels.

The breeding ground is where dragons find true love. Pair two dragons together and in a real-world time frame, a new dragon egg will be ready for the hatchery. This process can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours depending on the type of egg. There’s always a slight chance that they will randomly produce a rare, epic or even legendary egg. Of course, the elemental type of the egg depends on the parent dragons. All other structures are dedicated to collecting resources and granting power-ups to your dragons.

Perks and Precious Gems

There are even structures that float outside the boundaries of the Dragon Island, like specialty crafting areas and various shops to buy and sell high level goods. The Sacred Altar is where you assign stat-boosting tokens called Dragonbrands to your dragons. Earn these by either leveling up or claiming victory in any of the various game types. Beside the Sacred Alter you’ll find the Spacetime Altar where you can sacrifice dragons to summon new ones.  That being said, it’s not all cute and quirky in this realm.

Each process performed by your structures and dragon workers generally takes between fifteen minutes and half an hour to complete. Thankfully, you can spend gems to expedite the labor. Collect gems by completing daily quests, achievements or combat levels. Gems come in handy especially for food production. Dragons are bottomless pits and only level up by being generously fed.

To Battle!

Actually, make that a team of wild dragons. Indeed, your foes in Dragon Tamer are just as diverse and plentiful as your own team. Luckily, you have a chance to prepare for each battle. Tapping the Combat button in the bottom left corner of the screen takes you to the combat menu. Choose between several story-based or online game types to do battle. Victory in all game types grants rewards and contributes toward your daily quests. Competition for top spot on the online leaderboard is fierce as the online community is large and active.

A Wild Dragon Appeared!

The controls and mechanics remain the same in each game type. Before you jump into a level, you choose five dragons. The overall power of your team is displayed above the dragons’ heads. As you enter a battle, drag the screen horizontally to watch from your preferred point of view. The five opposing dragons meet you on the battle field in an epic, waddling fashion. Naturally, the fastest dragons get to attack first. When it’s your turn, a circle appears below the dragon who will strike next.

Three attacks will appear on the right side of your screen. Tap on them to choose your target, or hold down on them to read their details. When you’ve chosen your attack, small swords appear above each enemy. These swords change color depending on the effectiveness of your attack. The effectiveness is determined by the type of dragon attacking and that of the one taking damage.

Some dragons act as healers while most others are some variation of damage. Moreover, it’s safe to assume that the chubbier the dragon, the slower and stronger they are. Dragons deal damage either directly to a single target or strike all enemies with an area attack. Additionally, some abilities add or remove buffs as well. Battling is strategic and comfortably difficult, while the magical visuals are crisp, bright and stunning.

A Memorable Experience

With daily quests, daily and weekly rewards and a hyper-competitive PvP scene, Dragon Tamer ticks just about all the boxes. The farming and nurturing aspects are relaxing while combat can be quite tense. Bekko Games did an excellent job creating an immersive world via audio and visuals as well. Pick up this game right away and prepare to have an excellent time as a dragon tamer.
