Insanely Senile
Over the river and through the woods to grandmother’s mental hospital we go. Grandpa and Granny 3: Death Hospital brings players another horror adventure. Escape game developer WildGamesNet creates a fun spin with a tag team that enhances the need for strategy. Despite the lack of instruction and no save feature, this title manages to provide a fun challenge.
When you begin Grandpa and Granny 3, you can choose the difficulty. The best way to learn the controls is to play in ghost mode. This mode makes you invisible from the villains that walk around the map. With four different escape methods, you can replay the whole game again with higher difficulty. Items randomly spawn in the map which can make it difficult to complete specific endings. Regardless of which difficulty you play, the puzzles are relatively easy. Most puzzles can easily be solved without even thinking about it.
Unfortunately, some are more difficult. The biggest one is the water mains. In order to get the water turned back on, you spin the wheels on the water pipes. On the far-right hand side of the room, there is a water gage. It is difficult to notice due to its small size. Some wheels need to be spun to raise the level until water reaches the top. Grandpa and Granny 3 doesn’t offer many instructions and it might make it difficult for players to play.
Tag, You’re It
Grandpa and Granny 3 creates a unique feature that sets this title apart from other escape games. If only the game made this feature known to new players. You start the game as one of the office workers. Once you leave the zone, you can’t enter back into the area. Once you find the walkie-talkie, you can switch to the other office worker. My first run through of this title, I didn’t realize you could do that. I got incredible stuck and ended up watching a walkthrough to see where I went wrong. Once I knew that part of the game, I was able to get over half-way through without any trouble. Besides that, the lack of instructions works to keep everything challenging. Most puzzles are simple enough to not need any help. A few quick tips in the start would help to aid new players.
Summaries of Grandpa and Granny 3 make it seem like the mystery of Granny and Grandpa will be revealed during this game. However, this didn’t seem to be the case. Aside from a couple random articles scattered in the map, there isn’t much of a story. Most of the elements talked about in the summary on Google Play didn’t appear in the game. Luckily, story isn’t necessary to make this game entertaining.
If you find yourself stuck in this title, you won’t have much choice. There isn’t a hint option to help you move forward. There isn’t even a save feature. Grandpa and Granny 3 is short, but it would be nice to be able to return to it later. This can be frustrating especially since the items might not be in the same place next time.
Running in Reverse
Easy going puzzles and tag team gameplay make this title an interesting way to spend some time. Players who aren’t interested in horror will enjoy this funky puzzle game just the same. There aren’t any jump scares or grotesque environment features. The only horror is being chased by a couple of old people with batons. Well, that and Granny’s freaky mole. Overall, Grandpa and Granny 3 manages to be a quick, quirky adventure that has multiple endings for added replay value.
Is It Hardcore?
Yeah!
Grandpa and Granny 3’s simple puzzles and unique tag team style creates a quick repayable escape game. The lack of saving and explaining doesn’t ruin all the enjoyment of this free-to-play title.
