Cards on the Table
Gwent: The Witcher Card Game is neither the first nor only collectible card game adapted from a popular RPG. It can’t quite keep up with Hearthstone’s marketing, and not everyone was satisfied with the 2020 Android port. Still, it remains a popular strategy card game, particularly among fans of The Witcher. Now, Gwent’s getting a little bigger with CD Projekt Red releasing new cards on April 5th.
CD Projekt Red calls the latest card drop Forgotten Treasures and announced it with a press release the same day. It contains 16 new Gold Cards and 5 Bronze for the strategy card game. These include several new Units, Artifacts and Special Cards that, according to developers, “utilize and expand existing game mechanics currently in use in Gwent.” The card’s graphics also draw inspiration from CDPR’s Golden Nekker Project, an upcoming single-player spinoff based on Gwent’s card-game mechanics.
Gwent: The Witcher Card Game players can unlock the new Cards for free through the game’s usual Daily Quest system. However, players can also purchase the new Forgotten Treasures Cards through the in-game store. The store also offers a special Forgotten Treasures pack containing the premium animated versions of all 21 new Cards. However, interested fans need to act quickly as the pack is only available until 4:00 AM Eastern/1:00 AM Pacific on May 10th.
Evolving the Game
The Forgotten Treasures Card drop accompanies update 10.4 for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. Most changes include balance adjustments and stat tweaks, and fans can view the full patch notes on the game’s website. Standouts include a new Info Screen, a new page in the Reward Book, and the introduction of a Persistent Starter Deck. The latter means that players can no longer change or remove their Starter Decks. However, they can still copy the Decks and edit the copies freely.
Android and iOS users can find Gwent: The Witcher Card Game on Google Play and the App Store. It’s also available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Be sure to check out Hardcore Droid’s review of the 2020 Android port and check back later for more updates.
