Hope You Have a License For That
Parents of the world, rejoice! Your prayers for a respectable version of Grand Theft Auto have been answered by Game Pickle. Their vehicle operation sim Helicopter Flight Pilot Simulator puts the pedal to the metal free of murder and crudeness. Despite the title’s focus on helicopters, this game places players behind the wheel of an array of vehicles. Race against the clock, transport clients or deliver cargo with helicopters, planes, cars, boats and more. Get your road trip snacks ready because you’ll want to explore every aspect of this exciting open-world experience. Realistic controls, diverse missions and plenty of vehicles to unlock make this game pleasantly addicting.
It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane
As the name implies, helicopter piloting is a key part of Helicopter Flight Pilot Simulator. Players first navigate the tutorial by weaving a helicopter through checkpoints in the air and finally landing on a helipad. Helicopters are arguably the most difficult vehicles to pilot. Just like in real life, players must operate the up and down controls while simultaneously steering. Drag the buttons on either side of the screen to control these. Additionally, you’ll rack up bonus points for correctly locking the doors and toggling the lights of your aircraft. Activate these controls by tapping the buttons on the cockpit display in the center of the screen.
Airplanes handle similarly as players must operate the thrust in addition to pitch, roll and yaw. However, airplanes require more attention in the cockpit. You’ll have to tap the cockpit controls to retract and deploy landing gear and request landing clearance. It sounds daunting, but all you have to do is tap the radio button and the static chit-chat will always grant you permission.
Additional challenges make aerospace navigation challenging. Each mission has unique requirements like VIP passenger satisfaction or timeliness. It turns out business people don’t like bumpy rides. After all, champagne and turbulence don’t mix well.
Vroom Vroom
Afraid of heights? No worries. Helicopter Flight Pilot Simulator offers plenty of ground-based missions and challenges. For some reason there are sports cars all over the map, unlocked and ready to drive. I’d personally be more protective of my own sweet rides but hey, I’m not complaining. Take these cars for a spin on or off the road whether exploring or completing challenges. Controls for automobiles are realistic as well. Press either the gas pedal or brake buttons to accelerate, stop or reverse. If you’re feeling especially wild, hold down the boost button to feel both fast and furious.
Boating controls are, well, in the same boat. However, the boating experience is not nearly as exhilarating as driving cars. Sure, it’s pleasant to surf the seas and catch some waves. However, cars give you the god-like ability to launch other cars skyward by colliding with them in Burnout fashion. I guess there is a bit of a moral gray area in this game but it sure is fun.
Keys to the City
The city and surrounding natural areas are your test-driving sandbox. When you aren’t in a vehicle, you run around on foot as a character of your choice. The main menu hosts a selection of unlockable characters and vehicles. Unlock them by completing as many of the game’s 20 missions as you can or by collecting hidden items. Floating stars are scattered around the world and act as bonus points when you obtain them. Some are on the ground, over water or in the air. So you’ll need to use all the vehicles at your disposal to collect them all. Free roam in any vehicle by entering it while you’re not on a mission. Players earn coins automatically while free roaming. It isn’t as lucrative as completing missions but passive income is always great. Use coins to unlock items in the menu’s shop as well. I’m not saying you should try to unlock everything by simply driving in circles. But if you’re in the mood you can totally unlock almost everything by simply driving in circles. And to make a grand exit, you may jump out of any vehicle. I would recommend doing so in airborne vehicles so you can deploy a parachute.
Surprisingly Enjoyable
The title may be off-putting initially, but it’s easy to warm up to Helicopter Flight Pilot Simulator. Once you get a feel for the controls, you’ll be driving everything in sight like a maniac. Ads are minimal and only appear upon launching the game or starting a mission. Item bundles in the store cost real-world currency to purchase, but they don’t overwhelm the in-game currency purchase options. The game ultimately boils down to just driving around, but it’s surprisingly fun. Download Helicopter Flight Pilot Simulator from Google Play now and have a pleasant ride.
