This ultimate guide provides you with all the tips and tricks you need to become a VTuber on your android phone. From creating a 3D avatar to building an audience, we’ll cover the basics of creating, streaming, and monetizing your VTuber channel. So let’s get started on your journey to become a VTuber on mobile!
What is a VTuber?
A VTuber, or Virtual YouTuber, is an avatar that can be streamed live on platforms like YouTube and Twitch. With these avatars, streamers can perform in-character content, create engaging live broadcast shows, and communicate with their audience. While being a VTuber is becoming increasingly popular, it’s important to note that there are a few key differences between this new medium of digital entertainment and that of conventional YouTubers. For starters, many VTubers work for an agency like Hololive or Nijisanji and create content under their umbrella. However, thanks to the advancement in motion tracking technology, VTubers can quite easily create much of the same content that regular YouTubers do.
How to Create a VTuber Avatar
When it comes to the creation process for your VTuber avatar, you have two options to choose from. Either, you can create your own personalized digital avatar from scratch or you can choose a premade digital avatar. Creating your own avatar from scratch can be an enjoyable process, but it can also be time-consuming. If you’re short on time, we recommend purchasing pre-made avatars or paying an artist to commission a VTuber for you.
Since there are several avatar creators on the market, we’ve listed a few features you should keep an eye out for to find the right one for you. When selecting an avatar creator, keep in mind that the quality of your avatar will play a large role in how successful your VTuber channel becomes.
Alternatively some people like to use VTuber maker software but if you’re planning on doing this on mobile then your options can be quite limited. The better option would be to create it on PC first then look to import it over.
Your avatar is your online identity so it has to be something iconic. Take a look at some of the biggest stars at the moment for inspiration. You have Gawr Gura with her unforgettable shark-themed hoodie and teeth. Ironmouse with her all-pink outfit and horns. Even Inugami Korone with her adorable floppy dog ears and tail.
How to Become A VTuber On Mobile
Now that you’ve created your VTuber avatar, it’s time to stream on mobile. When it comes to streaming from your mobile device, there are two major factors you need to consider: the quality of your streaming and the stability of your internet connection. While there are a few different ways to stream from a mobile device, we recommend using the game streaming platform Twitch. While streaming on Twitch, you may encounter issues related to your internet connection, but this can be easily remedied by connecting to a VPN. With a VPN, you can connect to servers that are closest to your audience and significantly improve your internet connection. We also highly recommend setting up a push-to-talk button to allow your audience to engage with you via virtual chat.
Fortunately, smartphones like Androids, have become very advanced and can quite easily handle tasks like VTubing. Admittedly VTubing requires some equipment. So using your Android to become a VTuber is a great way to get around this. Plus if you’re just getting started and don’t feel like splashing cash on a camera or microphone; using your Android phone to test if VTubing is for you is a great solution.
VTuber Apps
There are plenty of VTuber apps on the Google Play store so feel free to have a play around with them. If you want to get straight into things then here are some of the best that we recommend that you try out:
VTube Studio – First up we’ve got VTube studio. This is an application available on Android and PC which has great facial tracking software. It will accurately replicate your movements with the VTuber avatar on screen, its only downside is not allowing full body tracking on Android. However, the application has a great auto lipsync feature that works off of your audio. All modern Android phones have microphone quality suitable for this application.
REALITY – REALITY is another live broadcasting VTuber app that will help bring your VTuber dreams to life from your Android phone. The app allows users to completely customise their VTuber avatars. The only downside is that they are all in an anime art style but if you’re an anime lover this should be no problem. REALITY uses your phone camera to track your VTuber avatar directly onto your face and and translates head and facial movements.
Custom Cast – Last up we’ve got Custom Cast. Similar to the previous apps Custom Cast will use facial tracking through the phone camera to mimic the movements on your VTuber avatar. The major difference is that the avatars are 3D which some may or may not like. The biggest downside to this app is that it doesn’t allow much customisation of each avatar. Meaning the variety in the characters proves quite limited.
How to Build an Audience
Now that you’ve created your VTuber avatar and are actively streaming, it’s time to start building an audience. While each VTuber’s route to success is unique, there are a few key factors that will help you build a large and engaged following. The first thing you should do is create a unique and memorable avatar. Then, you can start interacting with other VTubers by joining a few online communities. These communities are full of VTubers looking to connect and collaborate with one another. Finally, you can take advantage of online advertising platforms to promote your content and build your audience. Try using things like Reddit, Google or even YouTube ads to build a following.
How to Monetize Your VTuber Channel
Now that you’ve created your VTuber avatar and have started to build an audience, it’s time to start monetizing your channel. There are a few different ways to monetize your channel, and they all depend on your audience’s level of engagement. First, you can sell goods on your channel. Things like merchandise based on inside jokes and stream highlights are a great way to appeal to your audience. Secondly, sponsorships. Once you reach a certain level of success companies will approach you with offers to promote their products for a sum of money. If you play your cards right you could make great money from sponsorships alone.
Finally, interacting with your audience. On most major streaming platforms like YouTube and Twitch, viewers can donate and subscribe to the channel which directly supports the streamer. Engaging with your chat and making the viewers feel like they’re part of the experience encourages them to support your content.
The VTubing niche is still relatively new but it’s rapid growth shows promise for up and coming content creators looking to get involved. So, pick up your phone and get started!
