Following Kingdom Heart’s Tetsuya Nomura’s comments several weeks ago that Square Enix would soon be unveiling a mobile release for later this year, in line with their recent success in the smartphone market, comes the announcement of Kingdom Hearts: Unchained Key, a free-to-play title for Android and iOS that will launch in Japan later this year.
Unchained Key will be adapted from another game from the Kingdom Hearts series, Kingdom Hearts X (chi). A browser based free-to-play that’s only seen release in Japan, KHX uses a card based combat system and features solo and cooperative play modes. The story precedes the events in the rest of the series and is rumored to lead up to Kingdom Hearts III, although there’s no word if it’ll be rewritten for the new platform.
While there will likely be some changes before it’s deemed worth of Unchained Keys you can get an idea of what it might offer in the trailer for Kingdom Hearts X (chi) below.
