Digital Card Game
Ever wished Uno had more excitement beyond forcing another player to pick up cards? Then Lockdown Brawl: Battle Royale from Bombay Play is the game for you. Collect a rainbow of cards with different super-powered characters and fight against other real players. Earn rewards whether you win or lose and battle to the death for victory. Uno has never been so exciting.
Super vs. Super
In a world where everyone’s super and not everyone’s human, Lockdown Brawl: Battle Royale is quite a sight. Hit play to enter a warzone, but don’t expect instant chaos as there is a wait time of 20 seconds. Once in the warzone, face three real-life players in an ‘every-man-for-himself’ battle. The starting player and color are chosen randomly. Each card has a character and after a card is placed the character will attack a player to their left or right. This causes their health bar to decrease. Depending on the character, even you are at risk of being attacked. For example, Firestorm deals 50 points of damage to every opposing player and gives you an extra turn. There are also characters used for defense, like Shield, who provides an extra layer of protection. Additionally, two cards with the same character, Ink Bomb and Cannon, can be played on any color.
Ink Bomb attacks all opposing players at once while the Cannon targets only one. Other characters, like Energy Drink and Recycle, regain health. Special characters like Thief steals health, shield, and a random card from a player you select. Sometimes, after playing the same hero card as another player, damage increases until one of the players can’t play that card. That player is then attacked with two or even four times more damage than usual, ending their turn. Pick your hero quickly, as there is a set time limit to play a card. There’s also a 10-minute time limit to play in the warzone. However, time in the warzone often ends well before the clock runs out. To win, be the last player remaining in the warzone. If you die before that happens, it’s game over. Rewards are won no matter what, but those in first place get the most.
Winner, Winner
After placing first, Lockdown Brawl: Battle Royale awards you with a “chicken dinner”. Instead of chicken, though, you’re provided with cash, xp, and sometimes chests. Cash is used for upgrading your heroes, but you need to collect enough cards first. Cards are found in chests, along with extra health and cash. Collect enough health to increase your max health and potentially last longer in a warzone. Once enough cards are collected, upgrade that hero for 100 cash. XP goes towards your player level; the higher you are, the more likely you’ll get a new hero and more cash. Even if you end up losing, you still get cash and xp, but not as much as first place. The only criticism I have about the game is that card collection is rather slow going. Many heroes remain in low power for an unfortunate amount of time, increasing your number of deaths.
Light Em’ Up
Colorful heroes with a wide variety of powers clash in this interesting spin on the simple game of Uno. With useful rewards and opportunity for character growth, Lockdown Brawl: Battle Royale is a quirky card game fit for everyone. Though a bit slow in areas, this game is worth checking out for the heroes alone.
Is it Hardcore?
Yes
Simple, yet effective, Uno with heroes is a delightful distraction from the real world.
