Cosmic Marvel
Marvel: Contest of Champions is a free-to-play fighting game that features Marvel’s heroes and villains duking it out on a cosmic scale. Over 200 heroes are in the game, all divided into six categories. Heroes are either cosmic, tech, mutant, skill, science, and mystic. An example of a hero from each category would be Angela, Peni Parker, Toad, Shang-Chi, Anti-Venom, and America Chavez. All come with a unique set of stats and attributes that increase the more they’re upgraded. With varying levels of attributes, some characters are stronger or weaker than others.
Science & Magic Collide
Recent updates to Marvel: Contest of Champions not only made improvements to the game but also added new playable characters. The new event, Arachnophobia, introduces the new hero and villain: Spider-Man Supreme and The Spot. Becoming available on October 6th, Spider-Man Supreme basically has the same origin story as regular Spider-Man, but with magic. His official bio states that while studying under the Ancient One, he “learned to channel this power into spells and enchantments.” With spider powers and magic powers, he can dish out a lot of damage and isn’t easy to defeat. Granted, if players have a Wither or Anti-Miss ability, they’ll get some hits in.
The Spot, on the other hand, will be playable on October 18th. Jonathan Ohnn is a former researcher of Darkforce energy who created a black portal that became unstable. According to his bio, he “jumped in and was…transported to the Spotted Dimension.” After returning, Ohnn was covered in black spots, and so he turned to the criminal life. The portals all over his body make him hard to hit, not to mention he can redirect attacks. Unfortunately, his defense is very high, and is almost impossible to beat. The Spot is human, however, and can be disoriented. Players must figure out his attack patterns to defeat him.
