MARVEL Realm of Champions Review

Become Champion of Battleworld

Amid the sea of Marvel media, you may have missed the release of MARVEL Realm of Champions. This mobile action MOBA was developed by Kabam Games, the studio behind Marvel Contest of Champions. The game is set on Battleworld, a combination of different Marvel time periods and locations. The Houses of Battleworld fight for control after the death of Battleworld’s leader, Maestro.

Customize Your Champion

Unlike its predecessor, MARVEL Realm of Champions provides players with six customizable characters to choose from. These characters are the Iron Legionnaire, Hulk, Sorcerer Supreme, Web-Warrior, Storm, and Black Panther. Each is an alternate version of established Marvel heroes with their own gear customization available. Gear is obtained through daily objective/login rewards and as rewards in game. Weapons are also customizable. Players can change a Champion’s weapon to change their attacks.

Both characters and gear are relatively easy to unlock without the need for real life money. Players start off with Iron Legionnaire and unlock Hulk and Sorcerer Supreme after playing the different game modes six times. The remaining three characters are available for purchase with Units. Units are awarded by completing daily objectives making it reasonable for players to unlock characters at a decent pace.

Different Game Modes

MARVEL Realm of Champions features different game modes for players to choose from. The first is Arena Conquest, a 3v3 MOBA battle where players compete to defeat the enemy team. Stronghold mode has players defend an ISO Core (an energy core targeted by enemies) against three waves of AI enemies. Deathmatch has players take part in a 2v2v2 battle. The goal is to score 10 points before one of the other duos.

Each game mode offers enough variety to differentiate themselves and keep the game fresh. Arena Conquest stood out to me due to its nail-biting action. If up against an equally skilled team, Arena Conquests can be intense slugfests of teams scraping to win against the other. Other times I found my team easily sweeping our opponents and winning the match. The short length of the matches typically meant none dragged on for too long. Finding other players to play with takes less than two minutes. Players who want to skip looking for random players can join or create an Alliance and play with its members.

Unique Playstyles

Along with customization, Champions also bring unique playstyles for players to choose from. Hulk is a Tank Champion who can lead the charge and take a great deal of hits. The Sorcerer Supreme is a Healer Champion that restores allies help and provides extra buffs against enemies. Each Champion feels distinctive while being a good representation of their original characters. Smacking around enemies as Hulk while taking plenty of hits with minimal damage made me feel like him. As the Web Warrior I was able to fire long range web shots before coming in close for a web strike. No two Champions feel too similar which gives players the chance to choose the playstyle they like while experimenting with others.

Cosmic Experience with Few Heroes

Overall, MARVEL Realm of Champions is an excellent mobile MOBA for Marvel fans and MOBA players to enjoy. The game has a nice starting point to build off with six unique, customizable Champions available and three solid game modes. In comparison to other MOBAs, six characters is not a huge roster. However, Kabam Games has already announced plans for updates in 2021. With continued updates and support, MARVEL Realm of Champions could become a hit mobile MOBA game for years to come.
