Merging Legends
Dorothy and Toto have landed in an unfamiliar land, but it’s not Oz. On an island covered in fog, Merge Fables by MergeGames is one giant engrossing puzzle game that everyone can enjoy. Help Dorothy combine three of the same items to earn rewards and unlock well-known fairy tale characters. Earn money and gems to rebuild the island and make it habitable again.
Candyland
A big question in Merge Fables is: What can’t you merge? Almost nothing, as it turns out. After merging three red shoes to get Dorothy, the game turns into a merging party. Merging three jellybean seeds gets you a jellybean bush, then a shrub, then a tree. Tap the tree to harvest jellybeans; this can be done three times with one tree, though there are a few hours wait in-between. Other plants include strawberries, corn and pumpkin, each with different merging stages. Give these plants to Dorothy and other unlockable characters like the Gingerbread Man to complete orders. Those orders include cake, donuts, juice and smoothies, among others that unlock the more you level up with EXP. Collecting orders earns rewards like keys and copper ore. Getting enough keys clears sections of fog. Merge the ore to make coins with different values. The bigger the coin, the larger the value.
Generous Rewards
Tapping merged coins gets you spendable coins that you can use in the store. Spendable coins can buy items like extra energy, extra seeds, extra merging items and reward chests. They are also earned after mergers and completing daily tasks. Only so many spendable coins are earned each time, usually from two to ten, but they do add up. Another in-game currency is gems, which can also be merged and bought in the store. Gems are used to get more spendable coins, bigger amounts of seeds and bigger reward chests. Obviously, reward chests can be merged as well. They usually contain seeds, extra merging items and the occasional rare gem piece. Chests can also be bought in the store and earned after completing tasks. Additionally, there are the occasional glowing sparks and an ad that sporadically flies by. Tap them to get random seeds and other mergeable items. Cool right?
In For the Long Haul
I have already invested several hours into Merge Fables and there’s still so much I haven’t discovered yet. Not only is there more of the main island to discover, there’s additional islands to find too. For example, at one point Merlin the Sorcerer asks for your help to clear the fog on his Island of Arcadia. There you can merge dragon eggs and to unlock different kinds of dragons and other magical creatures. You can get more by feeding them cake (because everyone knows dragons love cake). And of course, there are cake seeds that merge into cake trees to harvest. Beyond Arcadia, there are the occasional limited-time islands with different themes. Recently I enjoyed merging fire sprites on a lava island. Complete stages to earn extra energy, EXP, coins and seeds. There’s a timer that tells you when a new island is coming, so keep a lookout for them.
Merge Fables is an incredible time-consuming puzzler you’ll have a hard time putting down. With practically everything to merge, there’s no chance you’ll run out of coins or gems to use for resources. And there’s an almost never-ending map to find and explore. This is a game that’s definitely fun for both the casual and the hardcore gamer.
Is It Hardcore?
Yes!
So much to see and so much to do, it’s almost impossible to put down.
