The new idle RPG game from NetEase Games, Mist Forest, is now available on Google Play. In this game, you’ll collect heroes and equip them with relics to defeat monsters. The developers aren’t promising anything revolutionary for a game of this genre, but if you love a fantasy adventure that develops while your phone sits in your pocket, that might be all you need to hear before giving it a shot.
One of the biggest features advertised for Mist Forest is its gorgeous visuals and scenery. There is a section of the game’s website entitled “Scenes”, that’s devoted to the stunning artwork depicting various locations in the game. I don’t know if the actual game will look anything like the beautiful photos on the website, but if it captures a tenth of that quality, color me interested.
The funny thing is, NetEase Games didn’t even need to bring out the hammed-up pictures, because the look of Mist Forest from the gameplay images alone is already pretty intriguing. The character designs are cute and fun while the fantasy backdrops are creative and wild. The art style is slightly different than the usual anime-inspired mobile RPG. It’s just distinct enough to make you notice, and it gives me reason to believe this game could distinguish itself from the crowd. There’s a sleek blue backlighting throughout that adds a cool and soothing tone to whatever adventure you might embark upon.
This game is a free install, but does seem to have microtransactions. Leaving the best gameplay options behind a paywall has ruined a lot of idle RPGs before Mist Forest. To find out whether or not it sinks or swims, you’ll have to download it and give it a whirl, or just wait until the Hardcore Droid review drops.
