Enter the Grishaverse
Netflix is working with Chimera Entertainment to develop a Shadow and Bone mobile title, Shadow and Bone: Destinies. The game will release next year and will be free to play for subscribers.
“We are incredibly excited to explore new opportunities with Netflix by developing a premium mobile game based on Shadow and Bone,” said Managing Director at Chimera Entertainment. The game promises to be a narrative-driven role-playing game with roguelike elements. One can only hope this means the game will feature Kaz Brekker and his team completing epic heists.
What is Shadow and Bone?
Netflix’s fantasy series Shadow and Bone is based on the hit series by Leigh Bardugo. Long ago, the black heretic, a Grisha capable of harnessing shadow, created the fold—a barren swath of land eternally covered in darkness and populated by terrifying monsters. Since then, the country has waited for the fabled sun summoner to fix the fold. When orphan Alina Starkov learns she has the power to summon light, she is thrust into the world of Grisha. Of course, not all her new allies are what they seem.
In Shadow and Bone: Destinies, players will take on the role of their favorite characters from the Grishaverse and help them fulfill their destinies. Additionally, players will make crucial choices throughout the game that alter the character’s adventures. While playable characters have yet to be announced, one can assume that feisty wind summoner Zoya Nazyalensky, Grisha tailor Genya, Safin, sharpshooter and fabricator Jesper Fahey, sassy heartrender Nina Zenik, and the Sun Summoner herself will be among them.
Netflix is also developing games for other popular series like The Queen’s Gambit. Stay tuned for more news about upcoming titles.
