Speaking at the company’s financial briefing on Friday Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo, elaborated on plans to produce content for mobile devices, discussing their partnership with Japanese mobile developer DeNA , and their aim to bring five titles to mobile devices by March 2017 with the first arriving later this year.
While five may seem like a small number Iwata was keen to impress the company’s focus was on building quality games and making each release ‘a hit’, in addition to providing continued support and operation long after release. It was also reiterated that while Nintendo’s entire IP was available for use they would be looking to produce new content for the mobile market and had no intention to port existing games from other systems, citing differences in business models and hardware for the decision.
There were also further announcements regarding the integrated membership service Nintendo announced alongside their partnership with DeNA in March, with Iwata confirming the service would be available on Nintendo’s exiting products such as the Wii U and 3DS as well as PCs and smart devices.
