I love top-down shooters. From Galaga to Ikaruga, and all the weird Japanese imports in between, the simple and satisfying arcade staple has a special place in my heart. So it’s a pleasure when I come across a quality top-down shooter on the Android, a platform that’s saturated with this type of game.
Uberactive Game Studios’ freshmen effort Jaeger Strike is an action packed top-down space shooter that’s reminiscent of 1945. You pilot a ship through space while you take on missions and fight dozens of different enemies, and huge enemy Jaegers.
The game looks great, and features some impressive backgrounds that really immerse the player and establish sense of scope and size. Asteroids collide and space stations erupt, as you try and dodge past enemy fire and take down the enemy forces. The game is fast-paced, and offers mission-based gameplay that’s perfect for mobile play.
The game also offers three different difficulty settings, four different control types and most notably, a free variant. The game can be downloaded and played for free, and is not hindered by any free-to-play nonsense like energy-based gameplay. It’s a fun game that we recommend checking out. The full game is less than two bucks to download, but if you’re that cheap, the free version works just fine. You can check it out the full paid version here.
