A Fresh Start
Initially released in 2001, Jagex’s RuneScape has remained remarkably popular despite its age. With over 200 million accounts, it’s the largest free-to-play MMORPG and is available on both PC and mobile devices. The 21-year-old game continues to see regular updates, with developers announcing a new version of the Fresh Start Worlds Event.
Relaunching on the 26th, RuneScape’s Fresh Start Worlds allows players to create new characters in a special world. This lets players start over on a level playing field to explore RuneScape’s early game content. The event mainly targeted new players and those who had been away for a while. Current RuneScape players needed to create a new account if they wanted to participate in Fresh Start Worlds.
New World, New Rules
However, in response to community feedback, current players can also access the event by purchasing Fresh Star Memberships. These Memberships cost Bonds, which players can collect throughout regular gameplay. Of course, existing RuneScape players can still create a fresh character if they prefer. This just gives them an alternative way to join in the fun.
Additionally, Jagex announced that it is rebalancing the XP multipliers and other bonuses that players received during the event. RuneScape Players will also be able to acquire Fresh Start Worlds exclusive items through other means after the event ends. Developers hope that this rebalancing will address concerns raised by existing players. Jagex did not give any specific details about these changes, however.
New, current and returning RuneScape players can join the Fresh Start Worlds Event on September 26th. Old School RuneScape players will be able to do the same in October, though Jagex hasn’t announced an exact date just yet. New players can pick it up from Steam, Google Play, the App Store or the official RuneScape website. Meanwhile, anyone interested in trying RuneScape on Mobile can check out our Hardcore Droid review.
