Climb To The Top
Android users no longer have to wait to join in on the collecting and adventuring fun of Megacrit Games’ Slay the Spire. Following its publishing in 2017, it has had more success recently migrating to more and more platforms. The game landed on iOS last year before making it to the Google Play store for Android devices to start the New Year, arriving on February 3rd.
If you’re not already familiar with it, Slay the Spire is a dungeon-crawler and a card game all-in-one. Skillful, combo-based battles alternate with classic adventure-style gameplay. Each player starts out as one of four selectable characters with pre-determined, specific items and skills at their disposal. To conquer the Spire, players must leverage their talents and cards to survive and top the Spire.
Adventures of Choice
Along with these tools, the game’s system of generating encounters allows for unique playthroughs. Whether or not you decide to take the safe/easy route might be the difference between life and death. There are tons of different ways to play, which is likely why the game has built a solid following. The game’s official Reddit page alone is home to just under a hundred-thousand loyal Slayers – sharing strategies and campaign stories.
Discipline is needed to build a reliable deck and achieve victory in the Spire. Choices made in your adventure can reward better cards. So can winning card battles, and progress gained counts whether you win or not. There are lots of achievements the player can strive for in addition to sweeter loot.
It’s a departure from the many more decidedly one-dimensional RPG experiences – substituting stock character interactions with dynamic options and variety. If you want a comprehensive strategy and adventure experience, look no further when Slay the Spire joins the Google Play store this week.
