Supercell has formally announced Project R.I.S.E, an upcoming roguelike action RPG set to hit mobile devices later this year. However, it comes at the cost of yet another anticipated project: Clash Heroes. Sort of.

Project R.I.S.E – How Did We Get Here?

This sort of thing is not new for Supercell regarding the Clash series of games. All three titles – including Clash Quest, Clash Mini, and Clash Heroes – were initially introduced by Supercell back in April 2021.

While both titles eventually gained relative popularity, gaining a little over 2.5 million downloads individually. However, both failed to meet Supercell’s high expectations. They were thus deleted from the App Store in 2022 and 2024, respectively.

Clash Heroes is set to meet a similar fate, at least on paper. While the team has confirmed that the original Clash Heroes as an idea is dead, it clarifies that the project has gone through a sort of rebranding as Project R.I.S.E.

Supercell now describes the project as a multiplayer roguelike RPG rather than a single-player experience for players to rise through the ranks.

“Project Rise is not Clash Heroes, but it’s set in the Clash universe and built from the ground up as a social action RPG roguelike,” said Supercell community manager, known better as ‘Frame’.

“So while some visual parts of Clash Heroes are still around, the game is brand new, and it focuses on more of a social aspect and playing together with various characters, rather than just you doing PvE dungeons.”

What is the Gameplay of Project R.I.S.E Like?

Project R.I.S.E will be an action RPG roguelike. Unlike its previous Clash predecessors, it will focus on a multiplayer experience rather than single-player.

It will still share the same universe as the other Clash titles, according to Suerpcell. It will also maintain the same distinct art style and some assets from Clash Heroes.

Cooperative dungeon crawling will be the primary focus, seeing players team up with at least two others to explore a dangerous structure called the Tower.

The camera is a top-down perspective, with each match taking place on a different floor of the Tower. Teams will have to compete with each other to scale as high and as fast as possible.

Register for the Pre-Alpha Test in July

The project is still very early in development, but Supercell invites players to participate in a pre-alpha version to share their thoughts and feedback.

Supercell scheduled the first playtest for sometime in early July 2024. Those interested can sign up by filling out a survey on the official website by filling out the survey. Unfortunately, developers haven’t provided information on the status of the second test.
