Glorious Chest Ahead

Another auto-battler Idle RPG might not sound like international news to most, but the team over at SUPERPLANET have seemingly taken the world by storm with their newest title, The Chest: A Cursed Hero. From its gangbusters pre-registration period to its Apple App Store Thailand and Vietnam features, The Chest has caught the eyes of mobile gamers the world over. In response to its global buzz, it’s launching on the local Google Play and Apple App Stores of 150 countries, with support for a whopping 14 languages!

Why all the fuss? The Chest: A Cursed Hero stands out from typical Idle RPGs in several ways. The most obvious being — as I’m sure you’ve guessed from the title — that the main character is, in fact, a chest. Unlike nearly every other entry in this genre, it’s story-driven with an actual, prominent plot. Our hero has been cursed to be a chest by an evil witch, and must befriend a different, much cooler witch on a quest to break the curse.

Another twist on the classic formula involves how our chest hero deals with enemies. In addition to doubling down on the idle aspect with automatic play, automatic hunting and even automatic farming, The Chest also advertises the ability to turn any enemy — be they monsters or dragons — into a companion for your team through strategic play.

Is this enough to make The Chest stand out amid such an oversaturated genre? Will it have the chops to stay on its feet? And will witches ever learn to talk out their issues without resorting to transmogrification? Tune in next time! Same chest-time, same chest-channel.

The Chest: A Cursed Hero is available for free right now on Google Play and iOS. You can look forward to Hardcore Droid’s review real soon!
