The Matching Dead Launches on Google Play
Match-3 puzzles are likely one of the last things that come to mind when the word “zombie” is mentioned. But that didn’t stop 37Games from bringing their new puzzler The Matching Dead to Google Play. A zombie apocalypse occurred three months ago, with the player as one of the few survivors. They must band together with other survivors to defeat the undead hordes by solving puzzles and collecting new characters to strengthen their team.
The Matching Dead’s play consists of building a team of three characters followed by solving match-3 style puzzles. Character skills and power-ups can also alter pieces on the board in various ways.
While the game touts the ability to create and upgrade a base, as well as collecting hero characters, many of The Matching Dead’s reviews are rather middling. Some of the issues mentioned by players in the Google Play Store include the title’s gameplay being too much like other puzzle games, a VIP in-app purchase system in which you must pay for certain perks, and an energy mechanic that gates progress behind timers.
The developers have responded to every negative review with the same reply of “Hi, we will update interesting events and more gameplay in the future please stay tuned, thank you.” leaving something of a negative impression on players.
