The Queen’s Gambit
Rockwater Games, a new studio with Chess Ultra’s creator Ripstone, have announced the production of the app The Queen Gambit’s Chess in association with Netflix. They revealed this during Geeked Week on June 11th, which featured a three-minute-long segment on the newly announced title. During the segment, they revealed an exclusive trailer that showed off stellar 3D graphics, featured characters such as Mr. Shaibel and Beth Harmon, and featured settings from the acclaimed Netflix series. They also revealed multiple game modes, boasting both single-player and multiplayer.

One of the abilities available to players is to ‘look up at the ceiling’ just like the protagonist Beth Harmon does in the series. Doing this calls upon your superior chess abilities to figure out the best possible move. This distinguishes it from most chess apps.
“Getting the opportunity to work on a beloved IP like The Queen’s Gambit is incredibly exciting for all of us here at Ripstone,” said Phil Gaskell, Co-Founder at Ripstone as well as the Creative Director. “We’ve set out to create a ‘love letter to The Queen’s Gambit’ and a new benchmark for chess on mobile by channelling our own love of the show, our years of experience creating successful simulations, and the incredible creativity of our team. We’re making a game that I know fans of the limited series are going to love and that truly offers something for chess players of every level.”
