War for the Wasteland
AMC’s The Walking Dead nearly singlehandedly reignited interest in the genre of zombie fiction. It also arguably led to the oversaturation of zombie games on basically every platform. Mobile’s been no exception, with countless zombie-themed survival strategy games. However, The Walking Dead: Survivors stands out for being an official adaptation rather than simply aping the aesthetic.
Now, the game’s getting a sizable chunk of new content with the release of Walking Dead: Survivors – Season 2: Queen of the Dead. Season 2, which launched on December 3rd, introduces a new enemy, story, and environment to keep seasoned survivors on their toes. However, the most prominent new feature is the beginning of a massive PVP conflict. Level sixteen or higher players can charge into the fray, battling rival clans across four regions while exploring a brand-new map. Publisher Skyboard Entertainment and Developer Elex Technology also say the war will expand over time. However, what exactly that means for gameplay isn’t entirely clear yet.
The Queen’s Empire
However, expanded PVP isn’t the only new feature Season 2 brings to The Walking Dead: Survivors, as Queen of the Dead also introduces a new story. Caroline Harper, the titular Queen of The Dead, is rounding up Walkers and sending them after other survivors. Players must work together and strategize to defend their settlements and turn back her ravenous horde of undead minions.
Queen of the Dead also introduces the new Wilderness Fields map to The Walking Dead: Survivors. The new map includes seven new buildings for players to explore. These include the Baseball Diamond, Football Field, School, Ranch, Twin Oaks, Police Station, and Tribunal. However, unlike the new PVP content, players can send their survivors to explore these locations right from the start.
The Walking Dead: Survivors generally enjoys positive reviews, though it still faces pay-to-win accusations. How and even if Elix intends to balance that with a PVP-focused expansion remains to be seen. Either way, players can find The Walking Dead: Survivors – Season 2: Queen of the Dead on Google Play and the App Store. Also, don’t forget to check out our review here on Hardcore Droid.
