Zombies, guts, weapons, a hope of surviving, and a ton of killing – every man’s dream bundled up a tiny screen in front of your face. If you’re a fan of the post-apocalyptic fiction genre, Zen studios gives you a taste of a turn-based RPG that resembles the comics much more than the AMC television series.

If you’ve watched the show, you undoubtedly didn’t forget about the ruthless and tantalizing governor Phillip Blake. Fortunately for fans, the game starts with the Woodbury’s Governor prior to his rise. The game has the basic controls of turn-based combat. Each player gets to attack once. After every turn a zombie takes a closer step towards your clan, eventually leading to your face getting chewed off if you don’t have the right strategy.

The single player consistently builds suspense while running a story line that is parallel to that of the comics. While I wouldn’t call The Walking Dead: Road to Survival brilliant, it does allow players to make decisions that will impact the rest of the story. It also includes the norms of standard base-building games. Buildings and supplies will cost you time, while unlocking tools and achievements will keep you captivated throughout your journey.

The bright side of The Walking Dead: Road to Survival is the multiplayer. The multiplayer allows you to raid with other players and build your reputation. Winning will allow you build that reputation while losing depresses it. Throughout your hardcore battles and slaying of foes, you’ll gain resources that will help build your utopia. Furthermore, while the game has its appealing moments, it might turn you off as soon as you run out of its coins. At this point it practically begs you to pay real money in order to progress. For fans of zombies and turn-based RPG’s I would immerse myself in the game as much as I could without the use of real money. Unfortunately, without a few dollars, you’ll be spending a whole lot of time trying to save your community.
I would rate this game a 3 out of 5 stars.
