I admit, I grew up playing my fair share of educational games, so when I came across an educational game by the American Red Cross for android, I was more curious than shocked. Monster Guard: Prepare for Emergencies is the latest app from the Red Cross that aims to teach kids how to prepare for emergencies.
The organization has put together apps for emergencies in the past, but none specifically aimed at kids. There are fifteen training sessions, where kids will learn what to do during house fires, earthquakes, tornadoes, and other dangerous situations. There are five characters to choose from, and what they lack in actual cuteness, they make up for in cool.
This is very obviously an educational game but it’s providing potentially lifesaving information for kids who may not be get it elsewhere. Monster Guard is a Disney-sponsored program with hopefully the right amount of fun and adorableness to grip a child’s interest long enough for the content to sink in.
