The Best Kind of Jumpy
Okay, let’s get right into it. Shovel Pirate brings back more than a few memories of the old Super Mario games, and offers the same mechanics and gameplay. The developer who are responsible for some other cute games, like Super Cat Tales, Slime Pizza and Drop Wizard Tower, offers the same old-school vibe to these game as well. Neutronized, tried to replicate the nostalgia while updating the formula for Android.
The plot is simple. You play as a pirate on a journey to dig around and find collectibles and gems. The game itself is very cute and offers a sweet respite from the flashy and over-stimulating graphics of current games. Although there isn’t anything wrong with these flashy games, I found a soothing charm in playing Shovel Pirate.
What’s In It?
This platforming game gives players 15 levels to explore, and the mechanics are pretty simple. Players use arrow icons to move front and back. There is also a button to hop and one to dig. Yeah, it is that simple. While you play as a pirate, there are some traps that you need to avoid and learn to meander across. The treasure is usually a collectible, and by the end of the 15 levels, you would have collected a significant number of them.
Honestly, this game is simple and fun. It’s a cute platformer game, and there is not anything really new or never-seen-before about it. But I think that works in its favor.
Shovel Pirate also has two endings, a good and bad one, encouraging a second play through. The game is charming and simple, but it is not easy to play. This is my shortest review because honestly, for a short and sweet game like Shovel Pirate, I think petite is perfect!
Is It Hardcore?
A little bit.
Shovel Pirate is a cute and nostalgic and platforming game. It is rarely boring and might test your focus and skills. The 15 level game offers a fun gameplay. You can definitely chill out with this one!
