Newspaper Boy Saga takes its style from Atari’s 1985 arcade classic Paperboy, where players were responsible for delivering newspapers to subscribers in a timely and ordered manner while avoiding damage to their properties. Developers Brutal Studio has altered that premise to include more explosions, assaults and vandalism with a focus on destruction and hit-combos.
As players ride down the street in Newspaper Boy Saga, their aim is to use newspapers to cause as much chaos as possible, breaking windows and destroying mail boxes. If you manage to destroy all the windows of a house you’ll receive a combo bonus as the house explodes. Homeowners, pedestrians, and pets line the sidewalk, ready to receive a paper to the face. Each level has a set of objectives to complete with a quota of houses to blow-up or a set amount of civilians to assault before you can proceed. Each level contains segments where you halt your rain of destruction to cycle through the street, jumping and dodging obstacles and collecting coins so you can upgrade your bike.
Regular game play is broken up by a variety of bonus levels where you might simply collect coins or give a homeless man a ride to the shops while he blocks your vision and stops you from jumping. Newspaper Boy Saga is available for free here on Google Play and includes optional IAPS.
