In the last few years, Square has been busy porting their old Final Fantasy titles to the Android. Now that that well is starting to run dry, they’ve begun porting over more Dragon Quest titles, the latest being Dragon Quest 2.
Dragon Quest 2 joins the original Dragon Quest, Dragon Quest 4 and Dragon Quest 8. Dragon Quest II was originally released on the NES way back in 1987. Dragon Quest 2 improves on the gameplay of the original by allowing the player to control individual members of the adventuring party, not just the primary hero. In what would eventually become a staple of the genre, you can also engage multiple enemies at once. The story takes place in the same universe as the original game, unlike the Final Fantasy series, but events start 100 years later in the lore. The original game map from Dragon Quest is included in the story.
The 8-bit graphics look good on the Android, and the game has been designed to play vertically, which admittedly, is kind of odd. You can check it out here.
