When a gaggle of RPG geeks get together in meat or virtual space and begin discussing the best role-playing games, sparks fly. In PC circles titles like Baldur’s Gate, Skyrim and Fallout get bandied about. If however, there’s a console gamer within a five mile radius of such a discussion there’s one name that you are sure to hear when you say ‘Best’ and ‘RPG’ in the same sentence and that game is Chrono Trigger. While somewhat fuzzy visuals and less than stellar controls make for a less than ideal port, the game is still a very playable rendition of Square Enix’s legendary Chrono Trigger in its entirety. And nearly everything that made Chrono Trigger great is here. While the combat is somewhat wonky on a phone or tab, once it’s mastered it’s more than enjoyable. Meanwhile, the game’s stunning time travel concept, and the intricate plot that’s tied to it, remains everything it’s made up to be. There’s also a passel of wonderfully vibrant, three dimensional characters, a sumptuous soundtrack and baddass 2D graphics galore. It’s entirely possible that the console geeks have the right of it as Chrono Trigger is a contender for one of the best RPGS ever made, which is why it’s Android Port, had a spot here before this list was even an itch in my pants.
