Square Enix brought the Final Fantasy franchise in to the 32 bit era with Chaos Rings I, which with its low-fi 2D backgrounds and high end character models felt in many ways like the mobile JRPGs first step into the modern era. Chaos II brings that idea home with a richly detailed modern JRPG that does almost everything right: The turn-based combat is comprehensive and engaging and the story features a protagonist who’s textured and complex enough to root for. What’s more, the game’s world building is video game candy at its best with incidents, characters and place all heavy with the fever dream aesthetic that makes contemporary Final Fantasy games such a treat. If you tire of the old school FF, but love you some JRPGS than Chaos Rings II is the way to go, though Chaos Rings II would no doubt prove a blast for RPG fans of any stripe. Not to be missed.
