Locker of Love?
Your school is a buzz with the legend of the locker of love. Rumor has it that if you write your crush’s name on a slip of paper and slip it through the vents of the locker of love, they’ll fall in love with you. Of course, you and your friends must find out if the rumors are true. As a group, you sneak into the abandoned wing of the school. Just when you’re about to give up your search, you see it! Two of your friends slip pieces of paper through the locker vents and within a week their both asked out by their crushes. But just days later both guys whose names were put in the locker die mysteriously. It turns the locker is really a Locker of Death and to make matters worse someone put your name in the locker.
Locker of Death is a dating sim by Genius Inc. The story which revolves around a cursed locker, is more interesting than I had anticipated and while it won’t be winning any awards, it managed to keep me intrigued. The story grows more compelling as the player learns the origin of the curse. Of course, you’ll have plenty of chances to woo your female friends as you try to break the curse on the locker.
She’s Just Like Other Girls
Like most dating sims by Genius Inc, players can choose between three girls to date. Unfortunately, there’s nothing remotely unique about the ladies of Locker of Death. First there’s Nodoka, the player’s bubbly best friend. Then we have, Mana the straight A student who’s never broken a rule in her life. Lastly there’s Rui, an intelligent and reclusive new student. It’s not that they aren’t likeable but rather that they are fit into the same stereotypes you’ll find in every other dating sim by Genius Inc. Just once I’d like to come across a dating sim with unique, well rounded characters but that doesn’t seem to fit Genius Inc’s M.O.
Pay to Date
My biggest gripe with Locker of Death is its constant paywalls. If you want to get anywhere with the ladies your going to have to make premium choices which cost gems. Premium choices allow you to flirt and be compassionate. Without gems to make premium choices you are basically stuck being a jerk. Players start out with enough gems for one premium choice. To get more gems you’ll either need to dip into your wallet or earn points by downloading apps and completing offers. Basically, if you don’t cough up some cash, you’ll find yourself in the friendzone.
Locker of Death is split into chapters. If you thought the developers wouldn’t use this as an excuse to squeeze more money from players your wrong. It costs one story ticket to play or replay a chapter. You only get two tickets at a time and once you spend them, you’ll have to wait a few hours for them to respawn. Of course, if you just can’t wait, Genius Inc invites you to buy story tickets. At 1.99 a ticket, it’s not an invitation I’ll be taking them up on.
Locker of Death is a fun albeit paywall-filled experience. Yes, the characters are a bit too vanilla, but if we wanted three-dimensional love interests, we’d be on Tinder. The story while not the most eloquently written it is certainly unique. Who’s ever heard of a cursed locker before? Locker of Death was nearly an engaging title. Unfortunately, the experience is marred by its frequent paywalls.
Is It Hardcore?
Nah.
Locker of Death offers a unique storyline and three lovely if stereotypical girls to date. However, its many paywalls leave players feeling unsatisfied.
