Best Android Games of the Month – May 2023
The world of mobile gaming can be a frustrating one. With games releasing regularly, it’s difficult to tell which ones are the best each month. More importantly, it can be difficult to decipher which ones are actually games and not just money grabs preying upon their audience.
Fear not. Hardcore Droid is here to help you determine the best Android games of the month. Below are the best Android games of the month. From console darlings ported over to mobile to games made for your phone, here are the top five games for the month of May.
5. Worms W.M.D.: Mobilize
The Worms franchise is something every gamer should experience. Cute yet sinister worms battle it out for supremacy as they unleash giant explosions and destroy the map in hopes of obliterating their enemy.
Worms W.M.D: Mobilize is everything those familiar with the game have come to love. Classic weapons such as the Holy Hand Grenade and the Concrete Donkey return to help you annihilate the competition. Moreover, the game provides a series of training and campaign missions for those who would rather avoid PvP gameplay or just need some help learning the ropes.
Best of all, Worms W.M.D: Mobilize provides a series of new features to help you provide even more destruction. Vehicles help carry your army into battle and create the perfect kind of chaos. Additionally, you can use buildings to help support your army against the oncoming onslaught of your enemy. This is the premier experience for Worms players old and new.
4. Voice of Cards: Beasts of Burden
Originally created for console, Square Enix’s Voice of Cards: Beasts of Burden is a stellar RPG told entirely through the use of cards. Out of the minds of Yoko Taro, Keiichi Okabe and Kimihiko Fujisaka, Voice of Cards is a beautiful mash-up of RPG, tabletop and card mechanic games which creates something entirely new and compelling.
As a woman out for revenge, the player takes on a series of monsters to save their home. For every monster the player battles, they capture those they defeat. Moreover, they are able to use captured monsters as cards in future battles.
This turn-based strategy, tabletop adventure is full of twists and turns. Coupled with its amazing aesthetic, Voice of Cards: Beasts of Burden is a must play for any fans of RPGs, tabletop games and engaging storytelling.
3. Honkai: Star Rail
Honkai: Star Rail is a rollercoaster ride of twists and turns jolting the player in a variety of directions and keeping them centered with beautiful visuals to keep their mind from exploding. Although similar to other HoYoverse games using the gacha style, Honkai: Star Rail keeps the player interested through its compelling story.
Your amnesiac protagonist travels from planet to planet on the Astral Express, a space train which carries the player to each new location. I’m not sure what keeps you playing a game, but when the creators take the time to build depth to each character, I find the world worth exploring. Honkai: Star Rail does exactly that.
You learn the backstories of the characters on the train and why they are traveling to their respective planets. Most importantly, the game holds your interest and keeps you wanting more even with the grinding mechanic. The game is fun, entertaining and well worth the grind that comes with it.
2. Mighty DOOM
Are you a fan of heavy metal? Do you enjoy buckets of blood and gore? Looking to annihilate hordes of hellish demons looking to tear you limb from limb? If so, Mighty DOOM is everything you want and more. The Doom franchise has carved itself a pretty nice niche in the console gaming universe. Now, it seeks to take over the mobile universe as well.
You can read Hardcore Droid’s full review of the game here, but it was given a 4.5 out of 5 and believed to “feel, play, look and sound like Doom.” It is a game full of passion and begging players to get hooked on its seamless gameplay. Long story short, it is one of the best games released in May. It’s only beaten by one of the grandest achievements in porting console games to mobile.
1. Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance
Fans of Dungeons & Dragons are all too familiar with the Baldur’s Gate franchise. Taking the infamous tabletop game and transferring it to console gaming, Baldur’s Gate does a phenomenal job of assisting DnD fans with too few friends to get a campaign started. Moreover, Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance is a wonderful continuation of the journey found in the original game.
Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance is a superb turn-based RPG that sucks players in with its intriguing story and keeps them hooked until the very end. Around every corner is something to fall in love with. This port does a great job of keeping what you loved about the game in tact. Additionally, it improves upon the graphics a bit to fit the mobile experience. If you ever wondered when mobile games would rival the console experience, Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance is Exhibit A in the case that the time is nigh.
