Abalon launches Horde Survival. This year saw the release of Abalon’s ninth major game update, Abalon: Horde Survival. Available on Valve’s Steam Deck, the roguelike Abalon fuses the strategy of deckbuilding with turn-based tactics of traditional tabletop games. The newest update Abalon: Horde Survival has players take a final stand. There is no exploration or window shopping in survival mode, only the horde. D20Studios promises players the ability to strategize their decks upfront. Players can choose from pre-made decks or craft their own. All to prepare for eight waves of monsters for 45-minute runs. From hypnotizing vampires to corpse-eating horrors, and everything in between. The developers hope players will find the horde as versatile and relentless. For each dead foe, players can replenish their own resources, improving their chances for victory.
The developers also changed a major Abalon rule for survival mode. Summoned minions and traps persist across battles, giving players an edge against the hordes. And if the player can eek out a victory, they have the option to call it a day. Or, if players are feeling bold, they can take on an endless mode option, and fight continuously evolving waves in perpetuity. The game really leaves that choice up to players. Abalon, and the ninth update, Horde Survival, is available for Linux, Steam Deck, Mac, and Windows PCs.
