Bad 2 Bad is Back
Bad 2 Bad: Apocalypse is the third instalment of the Bad 2 Bad series developed by indie developer Dawinstone. If you haven’t played any of them, fret not, you don’t have to play them to enjoy this game. However, if you do want to know the lore, Bad 2 Bad: Apocalypse gives you a summary at the beginning. Of course, you can always play them and experience the story for yourself.
Bad 2 Bad: Apocalypse is an open-world survival RPG set in an animal society with human characteristics. In this society, you have the Purebloods, the mysterious and elusive humans, and the Humals, the hybrid race of humans and animals. Think of it as a post-apocalyptic Zootopia focused on the military, except that the zombifying virus was created and released by humans. Join the Delta Team as they rebuild themselves and explore a world ravaged by the Wilding Virus and maybe even save it.
Get Your Team
As gameplay goes, there’s plenty to do. Mainly focusing on survival, you must explore the different maps to find your teammates after you get separated after a plane crash. You’ll have to scavenge to get resources, fish for food and craft weapons and gear. Slowly but surely, you’ll upgrade your camp, find your teammates and add them to your squad. As you progress, you can level your characters and customize them to your squad’s needs depending on the situation.
It can seem a bit overwhelming at first, but it’s quite intuitive. You control your team leader with the joystick on the left side of your screen and shoot with the button on your right. As long as you get that right, you are safe. To make things easier, you have a ring around you that automatically aims at the enemies that enter it to free your movement. The rest of the buttons serve to customize your teams, change the formation, special attacks, etc.
Another point I’d like to address is the art style. The graphic quality and style fit the genre so well it nails the badass-soldier-animals-fighting-zombies vibe down perfectly. The maps are clear and easy to read whether you have upgraded it or not. Another nice detail is that when you change your character’s equipment or uniform, you can see them wear it instead of something generic.
Turn On Your Instincts
Furthermore, Bad 2 Bad: Apocalypse is very free-to-play friendly and not demanding at all. You can watch ads to get materials or pay real money to buy equipment and other things, but that’s not obligatory. I will say though, that some resources are scarce, and the maps don’t reset, so you need to be very mindful of how you manage them. You don’t need to log in daily, and you don’t have nagging notifications making it feel like an obligation.
Bad 2 Bad: Apocalypse is a top-quality game where you can spend hours completing missions, upgrading your characters or simply just exploring the maps. It’s easy to understand, has plenty to do and challenges you to try different tactics to clear the challenges. The art style and graphic quality are great. For those of you who like lore, it has you covered. If your only interest is shooting zombies, then Bad 2 Bad: Apocalypse definitely has some of that.
