Hardcore Droid’s Best Android RPGs of 2022 List

What better way to ring in the new year than with an epic RPG? Of course, searching GooglePlay for the role-playing titles most worthy of your time can be a real slough. Thankfully, we here at Hardcore Droid have compiled a list of the best Android RPGs as of 2022. If role-playing games are your thing, read on.

15. Evoland

Evoland by Playdigious offers a one-of-a-kind experience. The game starts out with monotone 8-bit graphics. However, as the player progresses Evoland’s graphics improve, and you unlock new gameplay systems. Go from basic early RPG combat to turn-based to real-time combat and from 2d to 3d graphics. Evoland is in a sense an interactive museum of RPG history. But make no mistake, it’s also incredibly fun. Find chests to unlock new game mechanics, battle baddies and explore a rich and evolving world in this unique RPG that has certainly, earned its place on our list.

 

14. Old School RuneScape

Runescape was a beloved browser-based MMO in the early 2000s. Today, the classic title is available on Android devices under the name Old School RuneScape. A vibrant, free-to- play MMO, Old School RuneScape offers hundreds of entertaining quests for players to complete. The game doesn’t limit you by forcing you to choose a class. The game offers 23 skills from ranged weapons, magic and melee ability to cooking and fishing that player can master as they see fit. With adorable low poly graphics, fun questlines, and the freedom to play the way you want Old School RuneScape is a must-play for RPG fans.

 

13. Postknight 1 & 2

In Postknight 1 & 2, you play as a Postknight. whose job it is to complete dangerous deliveries. Both titles feature adorable graphics and are great titles for when you only have a little time to spare. Battle enemies as you make your deliveries and gain experience upon completion, Build relationships with NPCs by interacting with them or offering gifts. These casual RPGs are simple and cute yet highly enjoyable. PostKnight 2 adds character customization and more weapon types. There’s no doubt that Postknight 1 & 2 are some of the best casual RPGs currently available on the Play store.

 

12. Vampire’s Fall: Origins

Vampire’s Fall: Origins is an incredibly fun action role-playing game that you’ll definitely want to sink your teeth into. It’s an old school RPG brimming with enticing quests and swathed in a vampiric aesthetic. After being turned into a vampire by the evil Witchmaster, players set out to defeat him and bring peace to the realm. A 2d open-world RPG, Vampire’s Fall Origins offers three types of vampiric abilities to unlock—Might, Control, and Instinct. Might abilities are buffs, such as Revitalize. which heals 15 percent of your health after each battle. Bite is an Instinct attack that lets you heal yourself equivalent to 50-100 percent of the damage you dealt. Control abilities include Conjure, which casts an elemental orb, and Bat Swarm. With sweet vampire abilities, captivating quests and classic RPG gameplay, Vampire’s Fall Origins is one enthralling Android RPG.

 

11. Pascal’s Wager

Developed by Giant Global, Pascal’s Wager is a Souls-esque role-playing title. The sun having long ago died, humanity’s only chance of survival is to live beneath the light cast by a Colossus. The Colossuses are a race of giant luminous beings, and their light is the only thing that keeps the menacing dark mist from permeating the entire world. You take on the role of Terrance, a courier attempting to save civilization and find his wife. Take part in epic real-time combat against the marred, creatures corrupted by the dark mist. Keep an eye on your sanity level though. Exposure to the marred lowers your sanity and when it gets to low, you’ll enter the abnormal and eventually the lunatic state, both of which make battles more difficult. Travel to ominous villages, forests and other locales picking up lore along the way. With intense combat, a compelling plot and gorgeous macabre graphics, Pascal’s Wager is one Android RPG you don’t want to miss.

 

10. Chrono Trigger

Take on the role of Crono and travel through time to stop the evil Lavos from destroying the world in Chrono Trigger. Visit prehistoric times, the Middle Ages and even the future as you attempt to save the planet. Developed by Square Enix, Chrono Trigger offer a compelling plot with multiple outcomes, making this a title you’ll want to play again and again. The game uses an active-time battle system that requires players to wait until a character’s speed bar is full to attack. Besides a great combat system and stellar storyline, Chrono Trigger also offers a few dungeons to explore. A classic Square Enix title that only gets better with age, Chrono Trigger is still one of the best Android RPGs as of 2022.

 

9. Anima RPG

A Diablo-inspired hack and slash roleplaying game, Anima RPG by Redeev lets players choose from three masteries—Skirmish, Archery or Sorcery. Players can even get creative with the game’s multiclass system that allows players to combine classes. A macabre dungeon crawler full of demons, zombies and other terrors, Anima RPG offers over 40 levels.  Explore a dark and foreboding realm, complete quests and engage in enticing real-time combat. Take part in epic boss battles and even reveal secret levels. One of the most beloved dungeon crawlers on Google Play, Anima RPG is well worth your time.

 

8. Dragon Raja

Stunning visuals immediately draw you in to the world of Dragon Raja. A mobile MMORPG by Archosaur Games, Dragon Raja offers familiar yet engaging real-time combat. The parkour mechanic makes exploration feel invigorating. Many MMORPGs are lacking in plot, but this title manages to offer fun combat and an intriguing storyline. You start out as a young orphan whose home is attacked. You soon learn the evil Dragon Lord has been resurrected and superhumans known as “the hybrids” can stop him. Luckily, you’re one of them. The game allows for in-depth character customization as well, which isn’t always offered in mobile MMOs. Engaging combat, breath-taking visuals and an intriguing storyline earn Dragon Raja its spot on our best Android RPGs as of 2022 list.

 

7. Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact by miHoYo Limited is a stunning open-world RPG that takes place in Teyvat, a world full of elemental energies. Climb mountains, swim across rivers and team up with interesting characters as you seek out the Seven. The Seven are the gods and each one represents an element. These seven elements are harnessed in battle—Anemo, Geo, Electro, Dendro, Hyrdo, Pyro and Cryo. Strategy is key since elements affect each other differently. For instance, Cryo freezes, Hydro attacks, while Pyro vaporizes his opponents. Also, different enemies will require different battle strategies to be defeated. With a beautiful open world to explore, a complex element-based combat system and a worthy plot, Genshin Impact is easily one of the best Android RPGs available.

 

6. Final Fantasy Games

It’s no surprise that Final Fantasy Games get a spot on our list. Known for their splendid storylines, sweet turn-based combat and of course Chocobos, the Final Fantasy franchise is arguably one of the best things to ever happen to the RPG genre. Luckily for us, Square Enix has ported many of these titles to mobile. Whether battling against the evil Shinra Corporation in Final Fantasy VII or the kingdom of Baron in Final Fantasy IV you’re sure to find yourself enthralled by the intense plot and charming world. Each game in the franchise is a gem among RPGs and thus Final Fantasy Games continue to be some of the best Android RPGs to this day.

 

5. Knights Of The Old Republic

Knights of the Old Republic by Aspire Media is arguably the best Star Wars game ever made. This captivating RPG allows players to choose which side of The Force they want to join by taking the decisions you make and the way you respond to NPCs into account. You play as a Jedi—a whopping 4,000 years before the Galactic Empire came into being—on a quest to save the republic from the Sith. Build your own lightsaber and master The Force. Knights of The Old Republic offers players more than 40 force abilities. Visit Tatooine and seven other worlds and become the savior of the republic or fall to the dark side in this epic Android RPG.

4. Final Fantasy Tactics

While the Final Fantasy franchise already has a spot on our list, Final Fantasy Tactics is so inherently different from the others that it deserves its own ranking. War ensues in the kingdom of Ivalice after the king’s death. The nobles can’t agree who should be regent to the king’s infant son, which leads to the Lion War. Play as Ramza Beoulve, a cadet who finds himself in the middle of it all. As the game progresses, you’ll recruit NPCs and assign them a class with a maximum of 24  playable characters. New classes are unlocked by reaching a high enough level in the connecting class. Battles are greatly strategic. You’ll want to carefully plan out your next move before you make it. Final Fantasy Tactics has one of the most compelling narratives in the franchise and its strategic gameplay is unparalleled, solidifying its place as royalty among mobile RPGs.

3. Atom RPG

Atent Games’ post-apocalyptic title Atom RPG takes place in an alternative universe. In 1986, nuclear bombs were dropped by both the Soviet Union and the Western Bloc nearly ending civilization. Take on the role of an apocalypse survivor, travel the wasteland and thwart an evil conspiracy in this Fallout-inspired masterpiece. A challenging turn-based combat system, engaging quests and intriguing random encounters are just some of the game’s features. Many quests can be solved in multiple ways allowing players some creativity. On top of that there are skills such as gambling and lockpicking to master. You’ll also come across interesting enemies such as mutants and of course, no apocalypse is complete without bandits roaming the wasteland. There’s no doubt that Atom RPG is one of the top Android RPGs and certainly the best apocalyptic role-playing game on mobile.

2. The World Ends With You

Welcome to the Reaper’s Game, a seven-day gauntlet-style competition between souls of the recently deceased in which losing means being erased from existence. Play as Neku, a teenage boy who is recently deceased in The World Ends With You by Square Enix. Drag and tap your fingers on the screen to create specific shapes to defeat your foes. Unlock new abilities by equipping pins that can be bought or looted from enemies.

Most RPGs let you level up, but in this title, you can also choose to level down. Why you ask? Defeating enemies while at a lower-level nets you more loot. Besides its innovative gameplay, The World Ends With You also offers a plot that’s sure to tug at the heartstrings. Set in the Shibuya district of Japan, the game has a compelling and unique style. Between the innovative gameplay, engaging plot and aesthetic flair The World Ends With You is undoubtedly one of the best Android RPGs of all time.

1. Bioware/Beamdog

After all these years Beamdog’s classic Bioware RPG ports still reign supreme when it comes to mobile RPGs. That’s right. We’re talking about the old-school Dungeons and Dragons-inspired titles—Baldur’s Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Icewind Dale, and Planescape Torment. Originally developed by Bioware for PC, these beauties have been ported to Android by Beamdog. Each title offers a deep, riveting storyline and engaging combat systems. Search for a cure to the plague in Neverwinter Nights. embark on a journey to the Spine of the World to thwart a powerful evil in Icewind Dale. Play as the Nameless One in search of answers as you explore a dangerous landscape in Planescape Torment. Baldur’s Gate II finds you imprisoned by an evil wizard, while Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition asks players to investigate the iron crisis. Each game offers hours and hours of enticing gameplay across compelling environments. With rich dialogue, satisfying combat and engaging worlds to explore, these Bioware Beamdog RPGs continue to be kings of Android RPGs.
