Sometimes Crows Are Not a Bad Omen
In a land ravished by ghosts, a single crow rises to defeat them all. Boori had his human body stolen by a ghost. Now trapped in the body of a crow he has trained hard to become a fearless exorcist. Join Boori on his quest to retrieve his human body and rid the land of ghosts. This beautiful Idle RPG was developed by Super Planet.
As you gain experience you’ll unlock special exorcist skills, relics, equipment, dungeons, the divine beasts, and more. Boori’s Spooky Tales relies on upgrading every single detail. Stats, equipment, power-ups, costumes, everything. Regardless of that, it doesn’t feel as overwhelming. It’s a very easy game to understand, and a lot of that is thanks to the clarity of its tutorials. Every new aspect is explained simply and concisely and woven into Boori’s story.
The Freest to Play
Out of every free-to-play, this proved to be the most free-to-play of them all. Not once was I pressured to watch ads, to the point I didn’t even know I could watch them until much later. They get you bonuses and currency, but to be honest, they’re not desperately needed. Now, to be fair, the game does get expensive after a while, but not insurmountable.
The most difficult to level up were the skills, which are also the most important. You’ll need a special scroll that you can get through achievements or raids. But you don’t get many. Besides that, the rest of the materials are easy to obtain. Boori’s Spooky Tales has an offline collection system that works for up to ten hours. You can also leave the game on sleep mode for as long as you want at the cost of your battery.
Pretty and Spooky
The animation and the music are gorgeous. The music specifically is relaxing. Usually, when it comes to Idle RPGs, I tend to silence them because the background music stresses me after a while. With Boori’s Spooky Tales, it wasn’t the case. I could spend hours upon hours with the game in the background just listening to the music. I especially loved the intro music when you open the game.
Another one of my favorite parts was the story. In my experience, most of these games push aside the storytelling aspect early on. Here it’s certainly not the main focus, but everything is tied to Boori’s journey. Every time you have a boss fight or are introduced to new characters, you get bits of the story that help you ground yourself. You’re fighting endless hordes of monsters for a reason, not for the sake of it. And although it’s not much, I still appreciate it.
Now, the Downside
From time to time, a window popped up telling me that the server was closed. This didn’t affect gameplay, but it got annoying when it showed several times in a row, particularly when I was finishing the tutorials. The game also crashed a couple of times. Nothing major. Although sometimes it would leave me out of the game for hours.
Overall, I vastly enjoyed the game. I felt the story added much to the experience instead of just being there as an excuse. The animation and music are great, and the gameplay has everything an idle RPG should have. My only complaint is the server shutting down from time to time.
Hardcore?
Crow exorcists are always hardcore.
Good music, nice animation, and a valiant quest to recover your body. Yes, please.
