To Live the Dream!
Harry Potter Magic Awakened is here. Unless you have been living in a cave, you might have a clue about what Harry Potter stands for. The much-beloved book series has seen many shades of adaptations. Now here’s something on Android for Potterheads.
You have to be honest. Almost everyone who first read the book or saw the movies wanted to belong to the HP universe: That train ride to Hogwarts. That dress fitting and wand shopping at Diagon Alley. The secrets of the alleys in the magic schools and the excitement of Quidditch games have been the stuff of dreams for many of us. Harry Potter Magic Awakened tries to reconcile us with those dreams.
The story of Magic Awakened takes place a few years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. There are numerous references to both the book and the movies. You will be able to encounter both new characters and familiar faces from books and films. These expositional digressions within the plot line of Magic Awakened might be too much for some.
Has The Magic Faded Away?
Even though Harry Potter Magic Awakened is fan service done right, some problems need to be addressed. As soon as I started the game, there was a noticeable lag in the frame rate. It also crashes regularly.
It features storybook graphics which are pleasing and exciting in terms of interactive storytelling. However, these graphics are a bit poor in terms of execution. The frame glitches as you continue, and the animation appears janky in some places and might hinder the all-immersive effect, but not to a great extent.
Harry Potter Magic Awakened combines RPG, RTS and trading card game mechanisms. Players can indulge in an HP fantasy with an RPG aspect to it. There are various new customization options. You can tailor your character’s appearance and change hairstyles, facial features, and clothing. I particularly loved the different school robes that I could customize. Another favourite part of the customization was how the game assigns Magic Wands. Anyone who has read the book and watched the movies knows the significance of the Wand and the magical beauty behind the whole process. This and many other details contribute to an immersive and personalized experience. It makes each player’s character truly unique within the magical world of Hogwarts.
There are many things to explore that offer a throwback to all the memories of reading and watching the HP series. You can choose your own owl and roam around on your own Nimbus 2000. As soon as the story begins, the game redirects players to Diagon Alley and prepares for their first year at Hogwarts. You can create social clubs, hang out in your house’s common rooms and interact with people worldwide.
Harry Potter Magic Awakened contains a lot of story missions, side-quests and a linear narrative. These side-quests are scattered all over the story’s map. You must continuously interact with various people and situations to unlock these quotes. The gameplay revolves around the many adventures you can unfold while studying in your first and second years at the wizarding school. That’s why there are also hints of MMORPG here and there.
So, what’s the main deal?
Even though Harry Potter Magic Awakened contains elements of many video game genres, it is mainly a CCG set on battles called Duels. These are of two types: for story missions and ranked PvP. Each Duel involves cards featuring classic and well-known spells used by Harry Potter’s wizards and witches. There are also separate spells to summon creatures like trolls and dragons. Unlike other CCG games, your character can move around in Harry Potter Magic Awakened, though on your side of the arena. This helps to get into a better position for attacking or casting spells. Since you can freely move around, there is a chance of maximizing the range of the attacks on your opponent.
The duels can get overwhelming since there are a lot of spells flying around from both ends. However, the area for movement allows dodging and counter-attacking. Players can also explore opportunities for multiplayer play, as players can combine spells to create unique and intriguing outcomes.
But if you want to finish the game and see it to the end, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened features amazing end-game content. The Forbidden Forest, which is equally dangerous and enigmatic, becomes the primary area of exploration. It becomes accessible as players progress further into the game. Furthermore, you can also explore PvP mode once it becomes available.
Even without the paid element of the game, there is a lot to explore in Harry Potter Magic Awakened. I had an absolute blast exploring Hogwarts, flying on a broomstick. Endless sky and ocean below. The perfect day to live inside the fantastical world of Harry Potter, where you can live within the story. What else would a Potterhead need?
Is It Hardcore?
Yes, most definitely.
There are many things to explore here that offer a throwback to all the memories of reading and watching the HP series. Harry Potter Magic Awakened combines RPG, RTS and trading card game mechanisms to offer a reliving of the magical universe we all are so familiar with.
