Hundred Soul: The Last Savior Review

From the Rubble

My beloved city has been overrun. I lie in the rubble peering out at the carnage. The stones surrounding me shift and I am lifted from the debris by strong arms. Cradling me against his chest, the knight runs through the night. He must protect me, for though I am but a child now, I am humanities only hope. I am the last savior.

Hundred Soul: The Last Savior by HOUND13, offers an engaging take on the chosen one clichĂ©. The game begins with a thrilling cut-scene taking place 10 years prior to the main story. The world has been overrun by monsters and Herse City is the last refuge of humanity.  Your character is humanity’s last hope. Battle a variety of fierce monsters to save humankind from a gruesome fate.

A Character of Your Own

Character customization is a staple of role-playing games and Hundred Soul: The Last Savior does not disappoint in this aspect. While there are certainly games out there with more in-depth character customization, this title allows players to choose their characters gender, skin tone, hair color and hair style as well as eye color. Your character is brought to life with stunning 3D graphics. HOUND13 manages to provide character customization that will sate the appetite of most hardcore RPG fans without going overboard with minute customization.

Hack, Slash, Dodge

Not only does Hundred Soul: The Last Savior offer a compelling storyline and sweet character customization, the title also features fluid combat. Your basic attack can be used continuously but special attacks have cooldown periods. At first the game seems like it adheres to a simple hack and slash method. However, you will quickly learn it takes some strategy to win, especially when battling bosses.

Evasion is key. The dodge command has a cooldown period, however, so it is vital to time it just right. This can be frustrating until you get the hang of it.  However, combat is fast-paced and engaging. Your combat abilities are defined by which weapon you equip. Equipping Demolition, which is a large ax, will allow you to perform Whirlwind and Heavy Blow attacks, while the Nightfall blade allows your character to perform a jumping slash. It was a lot of fun trying out different weapons.

As you progress, you will unlock heroes who aid you in battle. Nazriel, the first hero you will unlock, assists you by shooting enemies with her bow.  To unlock a hero, you must first collect enough pieces of their soul. Each hero has unique strengths. Lucinda, who is reminiscent of Medusa, petrifies enemies while Karen prefers to set them on fire After collecting enough souls, you will need to defeat them in combat in order to convince them to fight with you.

In-App Purchases That Aren’t in the Way

Hundred Soul: The Last Savior does not shy away from in-app purchases. Click the cash shop icon to purchase anything from special gear to a gender adjustment packet which allows the player to change the gender of their character.  Purchases range in price from $2.99 to $99.99. Luckily, it is entirely possible to play the game without spending a dime and still have a blast.

Hundred Soul: The Last Savior is a thrilling RPG well worth the download. The combat system is beautifully designed with intuitive controls. The game’s storyline will keep you invested as you fight for humankind.

Is It Hardcore?
