As always, Lenovo wins the game
Even if you’re into gaming, you’ve probably heard of Lenovo’s Legion series. Lenovo has been producing high-end, premium-quality devices as a part of their Legion series for quite a while now. Their products are insanely hardcore, providing brilliant aesthetics and mind-blowing performance. The company recently sent me their Legion 7 laptop and I was extremely impressed with it.
Not the Most Lightweight Laptop You’ll Come Across
The Legion 7 is a fairly heavy laptop. Weighing exactly 5.51lbs, this laptop definitely feels hefty in your hands. Hence, if you’re looking for a lightweight machine that you’re going to carry with you at all times, I’d suggest you look elsewhere. The Legion 7 measures 14.2 by 10.2 inches and sports a brilliant Storm Gray shade.
Compared to the ThinkPad series that we reviewed earlier; this laptop is a masterpiece. It features a beautiful metal body, a thickness of 0.9 inches, with the name of the series engraved on the bottom right. The chassis is thick, sturdy and classy. It looks like the device will last you years. The matte body enhances the appeal of the laptop too.
On the Legion 7’s right, you get a generously-sized vent, a SuperSpeed port and a camera toggle switch. On the laptop’s right, there is another vent, a USB-C port and a microphone/headphone 3.5mm jack. That’s all the ports that you get on the sides of the machine, and I absolutely loved that. All the rest of the ports are dumped at the back of the machine. This ensures that you have easy access to the ports you need the most, while also making sure that the mess of cables stays behind the laptop. At the back of the machine, you get the charging port, an HDMI port, three SuperSpeed Type-A ports, another USB-C jack and an ethernet port. All the ports are labeled and have two massive vents on each side. Looks-wise, the Legion 7 is nothing less than a stunner.
Insanely Clear Display
I played a 4K video on the Legion 7 and the Lenovo IdeaPad L3 at the same time. It was a beautiful video of the Alps with an aerial shot of the mountains and the trees. On the L3, I could make out the different elements but couldn’t look at them with the unbelievable level of depth I saw on the Legion 7. I could notice the individual branches of the trees, the details in the mountains and the layers to the sky. The colors were bright, clear and sharp. The 16-inch display also feels fairly large even though its bezels aren’t trimmed down to their max.
The LED display on the Legion 7 features IPS technology, a native resolution of 2560×1600 and WQXGA resolution. It also sports anti-glare and a 100% sRGB color gamut. Considering the Legion 7 is a gaming laptop, this display couldn’t have gotten any better. It is fast and responsive in addition to being focused.
Perfect Performance for a Gaming Laptop
If you’re looking to upgrade so you can play your favorite hardcore games, the Legion 7 is perfect for you. Sporting the Core i7, a 32GB RAM, a 1TB ROM and the RTX 3080, this laptop has mind-blowing speed. It supported my multi-tasking pretty well, allowing me to work on around 15 tabs at the same time. These tabs included YouTube and Netflix among many others. It ran Photoshop and Illustrator the fastest and smoothest I have ever seen them run. But the real test of this machine was playing Call of Duty: Black Ops on it.
The Legion 7 displayed a highly impressive refresh rate, fairly fast response and excellent graphics. I experienced zero stutter and absolutely no lag. Its lithium-polymer battery made gave me a total of 6 hours. While that may not be the most impressive battery spec you’d come across on a laptop, considering this machine’s insane tech specs, it makes sense why its battery would drain out slightly sooner than the others.
Full-Sized Keyboard Offering Plenty of Give
The Legion 7 has a generously-sized keyboard with pretty large keys. Even the arrow keys aren’t trimmed down and for people with relatively large hands, this laptop is a blessing. The trackpad offers plenty of space as well and is pretty responsive to touch. There is a lock button right at the top of the keyboard that acts as a quick sleep key. The function keys have the standard easy controls that you’d want a few clicks away.
Final Verdict
All in all, the Legion 7 Intel is a brilliant laptop with an absolutely insane specs sheet. It is fast, powerful and beautiful. Apart from the machine being a little too heavy, I failed to find a single flaw in it!
Is It Hardcore?
Absolutely!
The Lenovo Legion 7 is a powerhouse. It may be a little pricey but is definitely worth the investment.
