A Little Mad
I swear I’ve played Madtale: Idle RPG before. It was a vastly different experience. I remember not enjoying it too much. However, the way the game is now, Archosaur Games must have really overhauled the content. The game runs much more smoothly and is a lot more interesting. Madtale: Idle RPG even has a decent story to follow now. Taking the role of Red Hood and her wolf, travel across the land and fight Polluter corruption. The main story plus extra gameplay modes really make for a fantastical alt-fairytale experience.
Magical Aesthetic
One thing I like about this game is the colorful and unique character designs. Most are so vastly different than what I’m used to, I wouldn’t have recognized them if they weren’t named. For example, Snow White, or Maria Lohr, looks much fancier compared to her Disney version. She’s dressed in more royal garb and has floating masks hovering around her. It was nice to see her as more than a naive princess in distress. Other characters that aren’t immediately recognizable include Cinderella, or Rilla Reed, and Puss in Boots. Honestly, the talking cat looks more like a weasel. In any case, a lot of love and creativity went into the character designs. I appreciate that the majority of the females weren’t in overly reveling clothing. Many idle games unfortunately go this route, and it makes the experience less satisfying. I’m happy Madtale: Idle RPG went in a different direction.
Bewitching Gameplay
Most of the game mechanics are pretty rinse and repeat, but that’s not a problem. The way it’s applied to different scenarios is what makes it interesting. For the main story, tapping on the Adventure button will take you to the next objective on the map. You can choose to watch the fight or skip it to keep the story moving forward. Enemies get more powerful the farther you travel, so you’ll want to keep an eye on your heroes. Level them up in the Partner section using rewards such as coins and memory essence. Other gameplay modes can be found in the Wilderness section. These include the Giant’s Garden and the Underground Ruins. The Giant’s Garden has you climbing and fighting upwards to face a giant a la Jack and the Beanstalk. With the Underground Ruins, it’s like a reverse tower challenge; instead of going up, you’re going down.
Into The Woods
Madtale: Idle RPG is a magically good game filled with enchanting things to do. Halt the spread of Pollution in the main story and rack up rewards in other gameplay modes. All the while enjoying the beautiful aesthetic and colorful characters. I was presently surprised how good this game was, considering my early memories of it weren’t positive. Whatever Archosaur Games did, Madtale: Idle RPG is now a game I can recommend to my friends.
Is It Hardcore?
Maddingly Yes
Spellbindingly entertaining in terms of visuals and gameplay, this is one RPG you’ll want to download as soon as possible.
