It’s been more than eight years since the last Tekken game was released. Ardent fans were relieved when Bandai Namco Studios announced Tekken 8 to be released on January 26th, 2024. With a leap into the new year, we’re not very far from Tekken 8 now.
However, before jumping on to Tekken 8, isn’t it fair to master Tekken 7 first? Because from our experience, Tekken fans don’t jump to the next game without mastering its predecessors.
Tekken 7 was a lot different from the previous games. Not only do the characters evolve, but physics is involved too, and that’s why many pros underperform in Tekken 7. Also, there’s no point in playing Tekken 8 if you can’t perform any better in Tekken 7. Why? Because Tekken 8 is going to be much more advanced and complex than its counterparts.
So, why don’t we explore some vital tips to improve your Tekken 7’s gameplay? By the time Tekken 8 is released, you’ll be an ace in Tekken 7, and prepared to wreak havoc on opponents in Tekken 8. Shall we start then? Let’s go.
1. Choose Your Fighter Carefully:
Not in Tekken 7, but for all Tekken games, the most basic thing is to stick to a single fighter. We’ve seen many players that keep on experimenting. While it may be good to explore every fighter, it’s better to stick with one of them.
There are 52 fighters in Tekken 7. What makes you think you can learn how each of them fights? So, don’t put yourself in such a situation where you’ve played with every fighter, but don’t know how to play with a single one.
To choose the fighter, filter out the fighters you know about. If you want to explore a new character, play a few matches with them. Learn their fighting style and check if it aligns with your gameplay.
Explore the situations where your fighter performs the best. Observe their weaknesses and strengths. Also, this is the only way to give a tough time to opponents in Tekken tournaments.
Speaking of which, do participate in Tekken tournaments. With esports on the rise, there are always some tournaments happening around the globe. All you need is a good connection that complements your skills.
While we’re working on your skills, let’s recommend you a better connection. Optimum is one of the best internet connections out there. Their exceptional bandwidth ensures seamless gameplay. Also, game lag is out of the question with Optimum’s connection.

2. Low Blocks isn’t a Good Idea:
You might be wondering how on earth crouching is a bad idea. Everyone does this, right? But let me tell you my friend here, you’re wrong. Now, let’s dissect this:
Primarily, there are four general attacks in Tekken 7. High, low, middle, and throw. As the name indicates, these attacks are for the opponent’s body positions. Now, the real problem is the mid-body attacks. They’re the worst among all. Nicely timed mid-body attacks can chip away a significant amount of health.
Moreover, when you’re crouched, you can defend yourself against low-body attacks, which are mostly low kicks. But some fighters can dent your health with mid-body attacks, even when you’re crouched. So, you’re unable to defend those attacks and left stranded.
The best practice is to ensure that your fighter stands tall. Don’t worry about the lower defenses. You can survive the low attacks but mid-body attacks, avoid them at all costs. Moreover, tighten your defenses while standing against mid-body attacks as it’s the best way to survive.
3. Be Agile:
This may seem too basic to some, but it is as important as landing a good combo. As a beginner, make sure that you don’t duck from opponents backward. Why? Because while escaping the enemy’s attacks, you may forget that the arena has a limited space. You’ll eventually end up in a corner, with nowhere to move.
Moving sideways while defending is the best option here. You may notice that front throws have a little success ratio. However, back throws always hit the target. Here, the key is to move sideways and eventually land behind your opponent.
This way, you can land good solid punches and grapple them with strength. But to do so, you need to be highly agile and quick with your fingers.
- Be Sensible About the Rage Attacks:
While learning about the character, you’ll realize that the fighter has a unique rage art and attack. However, not many players understand the importance of these attacks. When executed with perfect timing, they can bring down half of the enemy’s health. Otherwise, rage attacks leave you exposed to the enemy’s combos.
The best way to use rage drive attacks and rage art is when your enemy is attacking. It’s because if they’re on the attack, they won’t be able to defend. That’s when you take minimum damage to inflict the maximum damage on your opponent. Otherwise, these attacks can be blocked without any hassle and leave you defenseless.
Bottom Line:
Tekken 7 may get old with the arrival of Tekken 8. However, it’s in your best interest to master this game as it can act as a base for the next game. With these tips, you can improve your gameplay, that’ll eventually benefit you in Tekken 8.
