The PAWS Are in Trouble
Help the PAWS retrieve a stolen memory card and protect Neko Land in Super Cat Tales: PAWS. This is the third installment of the Super Cat Tales Series by the indie studio Neutronized and a prequel to Super Cat Tales 2. The platformer centers around the elite unit PAWS. Play as Pascal, Rose, Rigs or Mara, clear the levels and defeat the bad guys.
Protect Neko Land
You control the cats by tapping once and holding to walk or double-tapping and holding to run or attack. Running towards cliffs lets you jump and towards walls makes you climb. Depending on the cat you’re using at the moment, you unlock specific abilities. Rose can squeeze into small places and Rigs can jump-boost. To progress through the main story, you’ll need to complete the levels to unlock the next one. At the end of each world, there’s a dungeon you’ll unlock with a certain number of bells. Each level has three of them, so make sure to look for them.
Additionally, it incorporates a daily reward system that gives you coins. But how important are coins? Well, you’ll need them if you want to customize your cats with cute little hats or if you’re looking for a helping hand. You can purchase a floating companion that can help you in
certain situations; destroy rocks that reveal hidden passages or collect nearby coins. Now, having these companions is not that necessary to progress on the main story, but they are if you want to complete everything. Grinding the coins is a bit of a hassle, but if you take your time, you won’t feel it much. Super Cat Tales: PAWS also incorporates minigames, like fishing, beachball and the arcade, where you can spend coins in one of the two currently released arcade games.

Although the game is part of the Super Cat Tales universe, you don’t need to have played the previous games to enjoy this one. Super Cat Tales: PAWS is more focused on the action than the story, but the tad bits of lore are still engaging. It goes without saying that the pixel art and the cats themselves are adorable. Each world has its theme and the differences between the levels are unique and fun. I must admit that I had my doubts about the apparent simplicity of the gameplay, but Neutronized finds creative ways to challenge you.
My favorite dynamic about Super Cat Tales: PAWS is that when you die (after an enemy hits you twice in a short period of time) you go back to the beginning of the room, not the level. This simple feature takes away the unnecessary stress by not making you go back to the very beginning. Your punishment for dying is a short ad, but that’s a small price to pay for losing.
Overall, Super Cat Tales: PAWS is fun, cute and entertaining. The gameplay is simple without being boring. There’s a bit of a coin grind and some ads, but nothing too bothersome. Besides, every little grind is forgiven when it comes to going adventuring with a bunch of deadly cats. I do think that this game was meant to be relaxing as much as it was meant to be fun, so if you’re looking for something like that, here’s a game for you.
Is it hardcore?
